I bought the DRT389H to replace my faulty Hitachi DVD/HDD recorder. The specification for the LG was good without being spectacular. I bought it primarily for making DVD's from a Freesat PVR (WHEN they decide to launch one!), so all I needed was a good, basic unit that was comfortable with a wide range of discs. The LG comes with Freeview as standard, which is a great feature on such a low-cost unit. It's quite easy to programme, & the remote is fairly user-friendly. The upscaling output gives good definition & is a useful feature. It comes programmed at the lowest setting, so you need to set it up for 1080i. This is the only recorder I have ever had. I bought it to record occasionally and it has always done the job. Set up was pretty easy and the manual is very comprehensive. I have never had any problems with the quality of playback of DVDs or recording quality. I also plugged my external hard drive through it to play videos I had downloaded from the internet because my TV did not have AV input. The only limitation is that it will only use DVD+R or DVD+RW discs for recording. For non-experts like me it has does the job fine.

I purchased the Samsung DVD-VR350M as it seemed to tick all of the boxes; VCR, DVD recorder and has built in Freeview. I found it easy to set up and for about a week all was well. Then it stopped recording audio in video mode when recording from Sky. Then it decided it wanted to keep my video tapes. It has now gone back to the retailer and hopefully I will be rid of this machine- which is a shame because it offered a lot. I can't remark on how it works in DVD format, the retailer sold me the wrong discs and I never got round to getting them changed, in a way I am glad I didn't. I also didn't figure out how to record off Freeview, I could watch Freeview through my TV from this unit, but never figured out how to record it, in either video or ... Read More:

This is a remarkably versatile machine. It does all that a DVD player can do very well and links to a normal TV. But it is also a TV receiver tuning easily to all the free digital channels and the analog TV channels. It will record from digital TV on to a pen-style hard-drive. It has games and a control console also which I have not tried as yet. My only surprise and disappointment was that the TV reception cannot be output to a full-size TV. Why not? The seller Feastronics should be congratulated on their excellent level of service to the customer.

i wanted to transfer all my videos to dvd this recorder does this so easerly,it is so easy too set up. the qualaty is very good,also i can trasfer my tapes from my 12 year old camcorder to dvd.when you set it up make sure you put cables in correctly.
