131.NAV-MAT - DASH MOUNT FOR PORTABLE SATELLITE NAVIGATION from: Bracketron/Southmid
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Electronics : NAV-MAT - DASH MOUNT FOR PORTABLE SATELLITE NAVIGATION
Wanted something stable to attach Tom Tom 720 to that was quick and easy to use, without the messing about sticking the mount to the windscreen, only to have it come unstuck.

This fits the bill excellently. However, the problem with the Tom Tom 720 is that the mount is small and doesn't work when trying to mount in a horizontal position (as opposed to vertical). So before I could use the Nav Mat I needed to get an "Arkon suction mount arm" (available from Morpeth Mobiles). This arm is great, is easier to attach /detach than the standard mount and has much better suction.

The combination of these two bits of kit mean that it is a very stable (no slipping about whatsoever) mount for the Tom Tom and vibration free. When ... Read More:

I have had my Garmin Forerunner 201 for about 4 years now and have to say that it is simply the best gadget i have ever bought and i have bought a few!
It is consistently accurate, very easy to use and lightweight. It picks up the signal very quickly and i have had no problems with the signal dropping.
I am looking to upgrade to the 305 with heart rate monitor. That is the only thing i can imagine would improve an already fantastic gadget!

I agree with the other reviewers about the excellence of this GPS.

However, it does not come into its own without upgrading from the basemap. My gripe is that the better maps are ridiculously expensive. I can buy a GPS for road (ie in car) use for less than £100 complete with street level mapping of the UK. Why should the cost of a map alone for the HCx be more than that? Could it be that there is little or no competition in this field?

Electronics : Navman T1 Traffic Module
Unfortunately, at least on the journeys where it matters most, the available data is effectively a complete work of fiction. For example, trying to route around "5mph congestion" - when in fact the road is empty enough for speed to be limited only by Gatso cameras. Or giving no alert (on a major road) when traffic is so heavy I'm being overtaken by pedestrians.

If the data was better I'd give the unit 4 stars. It does have the odd quirk:

1) Power connector adaptor is an unnecessary mess.
2) Whats the point of giving alerts for traffic situations you've already passed?
3) Why try to route round "30mph congestion" on a road with a 30mph speed limit?

The specification for the 255 says that street names will be spoken. It has taken a substantial amount of time to find out this is only for the US.I feel conned can somebody explain why one should pay for a 255 as it seems to do the same as the 250

Well - that'll teach me not to buy without reading the reviews first!

Everything you read is true - incredibly TomTom have released a case that barely fits the TomTom, that switches your TomTom 'on' when you close it (thus draining its battery), that is stitched together very haphazardly, and that begins to disintegrate the first time you try to use it.

The best tip for any TomTom Go or XL owner is to buy a 'Medium Camera Case' from your local Tesco (as I write they are £3.50). You can find them near the digital cameras in any large Tesco. They fit perfectly, are in black with padding and look smart and if you have a Go920 there's a separate pocket for the remote control - job done!

Great piece of kit - as long as it works. I was attracted by this cool GPS when I saw a friend wearing one. Unfortunately his failed just out of warranty and now mine has done the same. Coincidence, poor quality or cynical built-in obsolescence. Anyway, buy this GPS only if you will get enough use within the 1 year expected lifetime.
