Used to have a basic polar HRM watch for running until strap broke. Been looking forward to Forerunner 405 but not impressed by reviews so jumped at this "deal of the week" offer! Managed to buy watch and heart rate monitor + footpod strap for ~£65.

1. Looks good as a normal watch
2. Straightforward to link up all three items (read manual)
3. Software download no probs, and uploading workout info automatic
4. Footpod secure on shoe - if you want to measure distance/speed or pace, then the footpod works a treat. Dont need expensive GPS model.
5. watch has all necessary functions - laps, interval timer, even tells the time!
6. so far so good - all items have replaceable battery

Love it! Ordered end of last week and it arrived on Saturday morning with free delivery option (and Royal Mail must have been on rare top form too).

This is a great item, its far superior to the windscreen mount, which although fairly good, does tend to drop off occasionally and scare the heck out of me - especially if you're doing motorway speeds at the time.

The beanbag is heavy and solidly made and the underside has a sort-of neoprene wetsuit kind of feel to it, which is what makes it stick like glue to the dashboard I guess. No problems testing it already - my other half thinks he's Petter Solberg sometimes...

But.... come on Amazon - could you have made it any more difficult to find this item? Surely giving it a name ... Read More:

I bought this despite reading some rather dubious reviews and must say I'm very pleased with it! The case fits perfectly - a neat, compact little satnav with a neat compact case! Yes, it doesn't hold the charger etc. but I'm happy to leave this in the car and only really want to carry the unit itself around with me. For me, being able to charge the Tom Tom at home is essential so the mains charger is a must! A good price for the two items together so overall, value for money.

We purchased this recently as an upgrade from an original 500. What a joke! The voice is inferior to that of the original and far less clear. We used it for 24 hours and found that when using a mobile phone on blue tooth the tomtom crashed and had to be restarted. Would not have been so bad, but on crashing, it loses all of your settings and you then have to spend time going through all the menus again.
It does look more attractive than the "Fat Navs", but the looks come at a cost. You have to plug it in manually and then attach to the base, a lot more fiddly than the originals which just clip to base and go. It also has an inferior speaker and battery.
I would highly recommend that anyone wanting to purchase a tomtom should look at the 500 or 700 we have one ... Read More:

Poor poor item. My other half has the standard Tom Tom device and I actually prefer that.
Raging about mine this evening as I had sat in a queue for forty minutes before it told me there was a problem - despite tapping my traffic column for updates numerous times. It then tried to direct me through town!
A usual forty minute journey took two hours.
It does not pick up usual traffic hotspots on my various journeys home either.
I also find it cannot calculate a useful alternative route, and I am relying on my own knowledge, or that thing they call 'a map'.
I bought the thing for home visits in my job but it doesn't seem to to be able to find its way out of the car park.
So no, I don't like it.

Easy to use and a great aid to running. Signal is brilliant where I am but can imagine it could disappear in dense wood or town area. But then take the warnings in the reviews and move up a model or two to improve this minor problem. Enjoy!

Bought this model from Amazon in May 08, it started to lock up pretty soon after this. Would put it on charge and it would not start up, have only used it for a couple of journeys. Contacted Tomtom and they arranged for it to be sent back for repair. It is great when it works, which has not been to often. Just got it back from Tomtom and the report said it had replaced the main board. When I switched it on and reset my settings , I had an error message appear ? Anyway set it all up and then I noticed it had become a 920 T on splash screens and on a welcome screen, contacted tomtom and spoke to a woman, who had a suspicous American accent, probably a call centre in Bombay. She assured me this was ok. Have sent email to Tomtom to find out why my model has changed.
Like I say when it works, its ... Read More:

I have now had the machine for 2 months and have done over 5,000 miles with it around the UK (Blackpool, Preston, Telford, Waterlooville, Portsmouth and London) so it's navigation and traffic systems are well tested.

The screen is clear in most conditions and even automatically zooms in as you reach a turn although I have noticed that with sun behind your shoulder the screen washes out, but this is where the voice commands, giving street names comes in usefull so while this can be anoying on a winter morning, it is not a major issue.

Features such as Bluetooth, MP3 player etc are good, since buying the 760 it is the first time I have ever considered leaving my phone on in the car. One point to make is the manual doesn't tell you the bigest SD Card it will take is 4GB, although ... Read More:

No doubt this is worth getting, it fits perfectly around the unit, and as stated in the above comment, it gives the unit that added line of defence in case of a fall. I also agree with other comments that the clip and the extra D ring on the back are a little redundant, with the lanyard fitted and threaded through its all you need and would make the whole thing look less bulky.

My word of warning... I bought mine from 'photoland_uk' and it is clearly NOT authentic. The 'Garmin' is written in completely the wrong typeface and the embossed globe logo is missing altogether. I'm not saying its of inferior quality... its just not the genuine article.
