Electronics : Palm Treo 680 Sim-Free Smartphone
My Palm T3 was on its 2nd battery and my urge for a an Apple iPhone was growing. I read all the reviews on poor battery life and had been tracking the Treo 680 as an Amazon favourite for over a year watching the price carefully. When the Treo 680 was offered at £99 I couldn't resist and placed my order.

My purchase is now 3 months old and I totally delighted. With Bluetooth and Phone off the Battery life is excellent (4-6 days between charge). Even with the phone on, the battery life is not a problem and easily better than my old T3.
I found rehosting of the old software from the T3 to the new 680 reasonably painless.

I've had my BFQ450 for 5 years and was browsing the web looking for a replacement.

I would agree with other comments that the key do stick down and need to be pressed firmly, there is also a tendency for one key to not respond as quickly as the others leading to some misspelling which can be annoying. It has been pretty resilient, after 4 years the only damage is one of the lid hinges which has come loose.

Probably the MOST annoying thing is that when you do make a spelling mistake or, as I commonly do, try to translate an English word in French or vice versa you can't cancel the operation and just switch languages You either have to wait until it tells you that it can't find the word, or turn it off and retype everything, ... 55.Garmin Nuvi 310 Satellite Navigation - UK Mapping + Bluetooth from: Garmin

Electronics : Garmin Nuvi 310 Satellite Navigation - UK Mapping + Bluetooth
Pros
* Long Battery life
* Has a Bluetooth connection, Audio book, MP3 and you can purchase add ons like the traffic management aerial/European maps and the maps and firmware are upgradeable.
* It has a detour button so if you suddenly find the road blocked it will navigate a different route

Cons
* The biggest problem for me is that it doesn't have a "direction arrow window" of the up coming turn, so you have to follow the white arrow (wherever it is on the map), my old Route 66 was so reliable it could guide me by the voice instructions alone, just glance down if I missed an instruction and check the handy direction arrow for next turn arrow in the left hand corner of the screen - not with Nuvi - I find I have to concentrate ... This is our first and will be our last GPS for walking - If the others available are in anyway similar to this, anyway.

We bought this some time ago and managed to get it working. As one of the other reviewers commented, it certainly does have a high learning curve and require a lot of patience to get to grips with. Garmin make you jump through hoops to install this device. For example, why should I have to register online? I have bought it new, I have a serial number - why do I need to register online as well? The instructions that come with the device are not particularly comprehensive, either. You just have a work out a lot of it, yourself.

However, we did get it working and I even invested in MemoryMap mapping software to use with ... Read More:

Electronics : Garmin StreetPilot C510 Touch Screen Navigation System With UK Mapping
I bought this unit 3 weeks ago from Halfords for £99 and have used it almost everyday since. Its a very good example of using good technology to make a very user-friendly product. It was very easy to set-up straight out of the box and personalise after registering on the Garmin website.

Then Garmin sent me a map update CD which I connected to the unit via my laptop and let the CD installer do its job. In the middle of the update, the USB cable got disconnected and that was the start of a big problem. the unit froze up and when I restarted it, showed the Garmin GPS BSOD - 'No detailed mapping available. Your Streetpilot cannot function'. The computer would not longer recognise the unit as a peripheral. I tried myGarmin support but tthat takes forever to load. ... Read More:

I had problems with my cable but in all honesty wasn't sure if it was this half (GPS TO SERIAL PORT) of the cable or the other half of the cable (USB TO SERIAL PORT) that was at fault.

Downloading was hit and miss, sometimes it would work, other times it said it couldn't find the GPS. It even slipped out of its connection at the GPS end on several occasions.

Wiggling the two halfs of the serial connectors together seemed to fix the problem each time the message appeared 'unable to find GPS', but I soon became very annoyed with this and decided to send both halves back.

In the end I settled for a one piece cable (not available on this site - see comments) which works perfectly and was cheaper too.

Great piece of kit - as long as it works. I was attracted by this cool GPS when I saw a friend wearing one. Unfortunately his failed just out of warranty and now mine has done the same. Coincidence, poor quality or cynical built-in obsolescence. Anyway, buy this GPS only if you will get enough use within the 1 year expected lifetime.
