I have been using a PDA of some kind for at least 12 years but it is now a dying product. The bottom line is that the IPAQ 214 offers no significant computing advantages over my 3 year old O2 XDA II Smartphone. I have also found that because PDAs are getting less support from the manufacturers I have had problems in getting accessories such as extra stylus pens. Having said this, after a few months use it has worked fine with no need to reset as yet. My only negative comment is that it feels quite delicate in construction and that it would break if dropped (as opposed to my O2 XDA that is built like a tank).

The bottom line is that I can't really recommend PDAs any longer because some of the Smartphone are as good as PDAs, if not ... Read More:

Used the Forerunner 301 for the first time after it arrived today and I am extremely impressed. Downloaded the latest Training Center software and this works flawlessly on 64 bit Vista. The interface with Google Earth is a superb addition and proved the accuracy of the GPS - easily within the <10m tolerance as specified. I ran along beaches, a riverside and roads and all the GPS plots of my run matched in Google Earth spot on. This obviously means that the speed/pace readings will also be accurate and with the excellent totally flexible editable workout facility this is going to be a big motivator to get me back out training regularly to get me fit for Windsurfing. I will also be able to use the Forerunner to check out the speeds I can get up to on my Windsuring ... Read More:

I chose the Zumo 550 because although I am buying it for my bike, I don't want to have a problem using it my car too. This comes with car (in which it talks to me) and bike (in which it doesn't unless I use a Blue-Tooth head-set)with full maps for Europe and even a quality carrying case to protect it. I LOVE IT!!!

This is a fantastic device. I can't extol it's virtues enough. I can't think of a word it doesn't know. When it conjugates, it does so accurately into every tense and into every person. It's great. I love it. The batteries have JUST died on mine after a year of constant use. Of course, I'll buy new ones ^_^

It gets you there - they all do that more or less. But this is Navmans Top of the Range model so I expected all the bells and whistles. What don't I like:-

As far as I can find, no GPS coordinate input option - WHAT!!!!???

Cannot pre-plan routes from anywhere except where you are now, and if you are in your house with no signal, no chance even to do that. I want to plan several routes on a multi-stage holiday before I go - you just can't do it.

Very hard to pre-plan detours you want to make - I like to use known or obvious short cuts - in France for example some C-roads are straight as a die, but all Nav's avoid them, costing you miles. Its very hard to make many of these changes before you get fed up bothering.

Re-route is marginally ... Read More:

There are loads of products like this now, but a year or so ago this was one of the few available. So I bought one. Lasted a day or two until a police car overtook me on the motorway and there was a loud bang. Thankfully no damage to the iPod but the Tunecast never worked again. No idea why. So I bought another one. What I've found is that sometimes it works really well and other times it doesn't work well at all. Have tried lots of different fixes... Being the only person in the car seems to help (again, no idea why) as does having the iPod on my lap. Even when it's working, though, I generally have to keep tuning to different frequencies because Radio 2 repeatedly elbows my tunes out of the way. Frustrating. One day I'll buy a car stereo that allows me to plug the iPod in, but for now this will ... Read More:

As an avid traveler, I feel you can't get anywere without a good GPS system. This horrific monstrosity made my life a living hell for 3 days, I ended up lost in the North of England, with only my wits on me. The GPS map itself is terribly out of date, and to be frank I would have had better luck with the 1970's AA map.

Electronics : Garmin StreetPilot C510 Touch Screen Navigation System With UK Mapping
I bought this unit 3 weeks ago from Halfords for £99 and have used it almost everyday since. Its a very good example of using good technology to make a very user-friendly product. It was very easy to set-up straight out of the box and personalise after registering on the Garmin website.

Then Garmin sent me a map update CD which I connected to the unit via my laptop and let the CD installer do its job. In the middle of the update, the USB cable got disconnected and that was the start of a big problem. the unit froze up and when I restarted it, showed the Garmin GPS BSOD - 'No detailed mapping available. Your Streetpilot cannot function'. The computer would not longer recognise the unit as a peripheral. I tried myGarmin support but tthat takes forever to load. I tried various forums via ... I've had my phone for a few weeks and am delighted with it for a number of reasons. 1) My daughter has a monthly phone contract with free minutes within the network so I was able to use a 3 SIM (which I can change if she moves to another network)The Phone functionality is great (dial from contact details or voice dial - great sound quality 2) I listen to talking books on my Creative Vison M which was adding to the weight in my handbag - I now have 30 or so Audible books on my phone (using the 4GB micro SD card I purchased at the same time) 3) I have used PDAs in the past and like having my appointments and contact details to hand - I can now synch with outlook although it's a pity there isn't the option to synch email. I would have to do this via the phone which could be expensive. 4) Although there ... Read More:

What can I say - such a great product!
We used this product in America, and I have to say that after travelling around seven thousand miles spanned out over a couple of months, the product has not yet failed us! Very impressed with its reliability. The only thing I have to say when following a Sat Nav route, you have only 2 options: 1) Do it their way or 2) Do it your way!
You can't go in between, otherwise you will just get lost and end up blaming the stupid thing when in fact its a lifesaver!
