Like the reviewer below I have to say what is the point of spending hundreds of pounds on a camcorder and then not looking after it properly by using a suitable bag. This bag is excellent quality and the attention to detail is superb, although some reviews say the bag is somewhat big, I feel that it fine. Has detachable shoulder strap. Bought this for my Sony DCR-HC96 - more than enough room for all the leads, manual, remote and tapes and charger.

Yes a good camera as far as picture quality etc. is concerned BUT the hard drive has become disconnected after only two months, (apparently a common problem) losing a lot of valuable work and now no-one at Sony can tell me if the camera is eligible for warranty, having been bought in Hong Kong.

Just plug in your battery or batteries and away you go...it really is that simple. Within 3 minutes of unpacking the charger it was charging my 2 camcorder batteries. The charger is one of the intelligemt types that even knows the capacity of each battery, and then either rapid charges or trickles along. It is great, and the price I paid through Digifocus was the best I could find AND with excellent customer service.

We have had many problems with this cam. The videofiles are DVD-quality (25% of DV-quality) and cannot be edited on a mac. Video is striped all-over, so mainly unusable. Autofocus is working badly in lesser light and not working at all when zoomed. Startuptime is long. Docking station is hopeless solution: all connections through this, so: no long-term video on AC-power, no connection for power on the cam. No Mic-in on the cam, no firewire at all, only slooow USB, which is not working 50% of the time.

In this day and age why buy an older technology CCD HDV camcorder when there are others with newer CMOS optics? Well right now, the CMOS technology is good but it isn't great, especially in low light. The older triple CCD equipped cameras like the HDR-FX1 and the HVR-Z1 work better in lower light than the newer FX7s. I've had an FX1 for a while now and must say that I'm very happy with my purchase. The quality of material I've shot is excellent using Sony HDV tapestock and the playback is top end. The camera manual controls are a dream with an excellent zoom ring close enough to the focus ring for the nimble fingered to use one handed, but far enough apart for a separate focus puller to use without getting in the way.
