I have severial of these and they all work fine, there quick memory and usefull depending on what you use then for, or too what product you use them with. Mediaplayers use them and i fined that installing is the hardist part, Enclosures are not recommended by me as i would just buy a Freecom 500g hardrive with a built in cooling system rather than buying this and an enclosure for a little less only too have the harddrive overheat and damage. Loseing 500g on memory can be devastateing.

Prices look excellent. Delivery charge on 1 packet was high ... £4.50 ... but with such good prices I ordered 10 assorted packets. Only after giving credit card details did I find that the delivery charge was now nearly £50 ... on an order value of £17.08. Thankfully I managed to back track and cancel the order. I think Amazon should be ashamed for allowing this type of business on their site.

I bought this to use with my iBook as a Time Machine drive and to store my photos and iTunes music, and also because the description says it doesn't need a power supply. This is true. What it doesn't say is that the drive comes with a Y-USB connector. If the drive can't get enough power from one USB port I have to plug the other connector into the second USB port. This means I can't sync with my iPhone!! Now I've had to buy a powered USB hub to use when I want to sync my iPhone or use a mouse. Having said that I must say the drive works fine and I would have given it 5 stars but for the USB issue. I partitioned it into two volumes - one for Time Machine and the other for photos and music. I had some doubts about the original hard drive in my Macbook and decided to give this a try. It arrived next day from Amazon [beautifully packaged] and fitting could not have been easier. This drive runs so quietly. The laptop was not noisy before, but now.... ! Amazing quality - highly recommended.

I've tried a few NAS over the years and my main problem is that they're all too noisy for a living room, as this tiny NAS has laptop hard drives inside it really is silent, barely a click from it even when I was filling it the first time with about 200GB data from my PC. The in-built DLNA server is really cool too, I can now stream movies to my PS3 without needing to leave a PC on. RAID 1 is an added bonus too, something this small that can offer redundancy, fantastic!

Just got this today. A snap at £43.00 (that's about 12 gigs per £1). The install was a breeze - instantly seen by XPsp2, no need for drivers. Installed a full version in about 8 minutes; noticbly faster than previous 7200rpm drives. Its also very quiet. 500g is a lot of space and external reviews rate the 'Deskstar' series: grab one.
