It does the job but finding anything is annoying as it juggles to suit its own file storage. It works - your back ups there OK - but make sure you have stacked everything as you want it before you start to transfer. That was my initial mistake. Subsequent backups are not automatically applied to your files being stored seperately. Obviously this can be updated manually but should that be needed.Perhaps it is me doing it wrong Anyway at the price I am happy not to deter purchasers Delivery 1st class and set up easy

Great product. I bought this having tried the WD passport studio and finding it was not fully mac compatible despite being aimed at the mac user market. Thankfully the lacie was fine, no installation required, just plug it in, format the disk and using super duper I had a cloned boot disk within 2 hours which boots my ibook almost as fast as the internal drive. The drive is also far smaller and better looking than the pictures give it credit for. It isn't the smallest disk out there by any means but for connectivity it is awesome and the performance is fine. It is quiet too and the rubber edging does give it a more protected feel.

What can I say, "it does what it says on the tin". Backup is not the most exciting thing we can do with our computers but I think its essential. The Drobo will keep your precious data safe and sound. The unit is very quiet and looks great. The best compliment I can give to the Drobo is, I don't even know its there. If you have data then you need to back it up. Do yourself a favor and Get a Drobo.

This is a very good value drive that works very well when directly connected to my MacBook Pro Intel via firewire... but...the main reason I need it is to back-up my back-up drive and was hoping to use it without an additional external hub since I only have one firewire port. Unfortunately I should have stuck with a Mobile Disk and paid the extra, as this one will not BUS and just hangs when trying to back-up from the Mobile disk external firewire drive using Retrospect and/or dragging and dropping the stuff. Disappointing as now I have to spend the cash on an external firewire powered hub (there is an AC on the freecom but it doesn't come with the power supply). To sum up = very good value if not intending to BUS however maybe it does so efficiently ... Read More:

I was lucky enough to recieve a Hitachi Deskstar, which made me happy because i didn't want another failing Western Digital hard drive. BE CAREFUL WHEN PURCHASING THIS ITEM, OR ANY SIMILAR ONES ON AMAZON. The Hard drive is perfect, installed no problems, no bios editing required. BUT all you get is the Hard drive. thats it. No SATA cables, no power cables, no screws, no nothing. So unless you have the mentioned cables and screws from a previous drive or lying around somewhere.. Otherwise, great item, beats my old one by a long shot! :)

Arrived promptly. Good value 1TB drive. Quite quick using USB2 (I have no SATA II link). The one criticism I would have is that the plastic stand to fit the drive vertically works (just) but is too flimsy and does not fit the casing of the drive correctly.

There's really not much you can say about a hard drive system, other than it works! I've got about 8 Western Digital MyBook products now, and they are each flawless. Setup cannot be simpler -- take it out of the box, and plug it in. The drives ship pre-formated, and anyone spending £300+ on a piece of equipment will know how to set it up for their requirements. I'm using mine as a media storage unit for movies, photos and music in a RAID1, so 1TB of data is mirrored on two physical drives. I only wish larger drives existed. But for now, it's the best out there! Strongly recommended!!
