I bought this drive a few weeks/months ago and I am very glad I did. I use it on a MacBook (white, bought early 2008) and the drive connects on a FireWire 400 (pretty much as fast as a USB2.0). This feature is great for leaving USB ports free as the MacBook only has two. The drive is tiny, I can barely hear it (it might stand out in a complete silent room, not even sure). The firewire cable is a bit stiff and short, so it can be tricky to move the disk around, but I would not remove a star for this. All together, that's a great device and I hope it lasts. I already have a WD desktop hard drive bought two years ago and it has not failed me once.

I bought this for my son because hes goes mad about psp's he absolutley loves it it is at such a good price I would highly recomend to every one who has a psp if you are a parent I highly recomend this as a gift to your children.

Bascially I bought this to hang more Network Attached Storage off my router at home. THE 80GB Ximeta drive I already have requires proprietary software and drivers as does this Western Digital MyBook out-of-the-box. However a little sniffing around on the internet show that this drive can be configured as a stand alone FTP server using the Linux install that is already controlling the drive. A great piece of kit if you are looking for access via any device capable of running an FTP client. (PC, iPod Touch etc.) Very happy with my own home FTP server. Knowledge of Linux and SSH required to unlock the real power of this little box.

After having had several bad experiences with data loss in external hard drives in the past, I was at first unwilling to buy another. However, I have had this drive for well over a year now, dropped it from several feet onto hard ground several times and not been too kind to it, and it still works FANTASTICALLY. Barely a whisper, no vibrations at all and only the tiniest hint of warmth. Very highly recommended.

I bought this product on impulse at a shop a few days back, having seen that it had a good price. The Wacom tablets were too far out of my price range, so I settled for this. On returning home, I opened the box to find a pen, a pad, a mouse, two AAA batteries, a CD and a (very) short instruction manual. All looked fine. The build quality isn't fantastic, but when you pay a price like this, you shouldn't set your expectations so high. I installed the driver from the CD, and found after installing that the pointer was very jerky and froze every few minutes. I went on the internet to see the reviews and if others were having this problem, and was disappointed to see so many angry customers. The idea of having a small, network attached storage device sounded very appealing when I looked for something to use with my laptop. I didn't want to attach any cables to my laptop so this seemed ideal as I could connect to it wirelessly. It seemed okay at first, the software to manage it is very average and it does feel very slow to read/write to. I thought I could live with this until the day it chewed up my data. A partition is now read as a FAT32 partition by Windows, contains empty files (zero length) that are actually folder names from a different partition and it shows as having 61GB used yet the ten or so files visible on the disk are zero bytes in length.
