Out of the box this looks great, though the positioning of the earphone socket & controls are a bit odd. The sound and video quality based on the installed samples seemed pretty good. But that was as far as I got. Despite trying 2 different PCs both of which matched the suggested spec, and dowloading various drivers and utilities from the Phillips website, I could not get Windows XP to recognise it. So back it went to the supplier, and I am now down the cost of the hefty postage charges. Reading around on the web this seems to be a not uncommon problem with these players - shame - I was quite excited when I opened the box.

Whenever I read MP3 player reviews, I'm astounded by how much focus there is on how the thing looks compared to how well it works. I've had a bunch of MP3 players over the years and this is by far the easiest to use, you can practically navigate through songs from the outside of your pocket. Syncs easily with WMP, or you can easily drag and drop songs straight to the player. Also, a massive bonus is that no software or drivers are required to install it. There are loads of great features which are also easy to use, you can download different themes which change the appearance of all the menus for example. Battery life is satisfactory as well. All in all, a first class player.

Considering i only paid £150 for mine i cannot complain, and why would i want to? This thing is amazing! I have never been a fan of Apple stuff, still am not, but my opinion of the iPod has changed. For such a small thing i can do so much: Games, Calendar, Mail, Internet, Music, Movies, Apps etc. It truly is great - However, i wouldn't pay £270 for one... They aren't that good. If you can get one cheaper it is a must, if not wait till they are <£200. You won't regret it!

Just recieved one of these as a present for my 4yr old daughter, really impressed. Its well built, small and very simple to use. It has a removal SD memory card makes it a cinch to upgrade the capacity and add mp3's 2 Headphone sockets External speaker which is surprisingly loud and clear.

Have been playing around with this for a few weeks. Use is mainly domestic audio, piping output via bluetooth to a hifi. Very well built unit. Seems to have a huge battery life. Great sound quality over Shure SE210 earphones. Downside: 1. Touch screen is a bit fiddly to use. Selecting from a large music collection (e.g. > 125 C/D's) should be made easier, e.g. it does not do 'smooth scrolling'. 2. Samsung brag about their DNSe sound processing technology which does make a significant difference listening on earbuds. Wow, took a bit of a gamble buying one of the cheapest FM transmitters, but I've been pleasantly surprised! I know there are better looking products out there, but if looks aren't a priority, you won't go wrong with this one. Transmits great sound quality from my iPod with no signs of interference or distortion.

As I was upgrading from one of these cheapo £25 512Mb ones I did not have huge expectations. I did quite a bit of research on MP3 before making the plunge, Which magazine and website, read most of the amazon reviews and other websites. The YP-T9 was rated highly in Which and the reliability appeared to be better than the Ipods. What really tipped it for me was the price. Why would I want to pay twice as much of a 4Gb Nano that does not have a radio? It was a close run thing between the Samsung and the Sony Walkman which appear to be comparable in price and features. It was looks that won the day and in the flesh it looks better than the pictures. I have been using it for 3 months now and find it very easy to use without having to dive into the manual.
