The software - Sonicstage - is a bit awkward and frequently stalled on me at first, it wouldn't let me transfer tracks to the MD. Also, it could only cope with transferring a few tracks at a time.

However i can't fault the actual player, which is great. Because it uses normal AA batteries you don't have to carry the charger around, and it has a great battery life. The sound is crystal clear and it has a great compression rate to fit about 500 songs on a 1GB disc.

If the software had been better i would have given it 5 stars

I use my Sony MZ-B10 MiniDisc Recorder to archive the recordings of all my university lectures and seminars which have been made on my Sony ICD-MX20 Digital Recorder. As with all Sony systems, these units have been designed to compliment each other and to give professional results. The output from the MZ-B10 is excellent, the unit is well made, and it has survived the rigours of two years of college and university life without a problem. A typical piece of Sony equipment, superb reliability and build quality, and easy to use!

I like this machine a lot. I use it with the ECM-DS70P condenser mic to record my musical ramblings, interviews with clients, and when I'm not doing that I use it as a personal stereo.

It is well built, sounds great, the batteries last ages, and the HiMD discs are just HUGE! You can get hours of music on one disc, and on random play you are constantly surprised by what pops up.

The only reservation I have is the software interface. Sony's SonicStage software is the only way to connect to the machine, and Sony are a record company. Their priority seems to be to stop you breaching their recordings' copyright, even at the expense of the usefulness of the machine.

I can't use it to transfer music from one computer to another, ... Read More:

I was very impressed when I first bought this MiniDisc player, as it's AIWA logo'd, I presumed it may not be the best of the bunch, but it is very cheap so I bought it.

I was impressed when I first got my songs onto the player, after fiddling around with the software for about 10-20 minutes. The player is good and the battery lasts for hours upon hours even at full volume, the only gripe, as with nearly all portable players of any kind is the ear phones, which are of poor quality, I use a different pair.

All in all, a good purchase.
