I looked at a lot of reviews for this (on Amazon and elsewhere) and plumped for this drive because of its excellent connectivity. I'm a Mac user and Apple seem to be moving away from Firewire towards USB so I wanted to ensure the best of both Worlds. My G5 Mac has Firewire 400 and 800 and I wanted to try the Firewire 800 speed. It is very fast. I copied 160GB in around 2 hours. The drive itself is small, neat and very quiet; a few clicks here and there but nothing too noticeable, The lights are a bit distracting if the drive is in use a lot like mine but I put it out of direct view and it is fine. Bought this item from another vendor back in January. It set up fine - I've used it in both USB and LAN modes without issue. I even set it up to work on the internet for a while feeding webcam images out onto the net. Generally it did what it claimed. Plus points. 1 - Quiet 2 - Works on USB and NAS with little problems Couple of issue though. 1 - Not the fastest transfer rates as it's not Gigabit LAN 2 - runs very hot when in use for a while. 3 - There is a spin down setting on the Web admin page to turn off the hard drive but the unit does not power down completely when connected to a computer that's shutting down (unlike my Buffalo USB version) 4 - Has become ... Yes! Great value, quality product. Indeed external hard disk enclosures get HOT. To help you to keep things cool, use old resalvaged heat-sinks! I always collect and keep these, all sizes. Mostly alloy but copper is even better. Simply place your drive on a flat lump of alloy, or a heat sink if you have 1. The alloy will suck the heat out of the drive, spread the heat and your drive will get warm and not overheat. Get some heat transfer paste (for cpu) from local computer store, use some between. Never place your drive onto a carpet or soft upholstery, as doing so will have the opposite effect, causing thermal insulation, NOT what we need. Hope this helps friends.

I've had this product for 1.5 years and I have found it an incredible product. It transfers data quickly, I don't actually find it that noisy, if you're actually trying to listen to it then you might find it loud but I forget about it after a while. As for the flickering light, I know it's always flickering however you ignore it after a while. It's a great product and hasn't been a problem at all, never broke or crashed.

I have only two minor quibbles with the drives and they are the strange way that they connect and the lack of an off/on switch. They have a very short built in lead which has to be connected to a supplied USB extension lead. This is a slightly awkward process and I cannot for the life of me see the point of it or of how it offers any advantage over the normal procedure of plugging a lead into the back of the drive. That said, it is a minor point and I don't think that it would put me off buying another but, if I had the choice, I would go for a drive with a standard connection.

Design wise, this is a sleek looking piece of hardware that fits in nicely on a desktop. As to the company claim that it is no bigger than a stapler with its vertical footprint, I can only presume that they have rather large staplers. That aside though, the single orange light that flashes as though the device was breathing is attractive but not distracting when watching movies ect. I am running OS X 10.4.11 and it works perfectly, their installer is useless however. After waiting for it to run and configure my device properly (yawn) and after rebooting my drive was recognised but not writable. After trawling their tech support website they said to use Disk Utility to reformat the disk (my next port of call anyway) so its easy enough ... Read More:
