I upgraded my original cassette/radio for one of these, and I'm not disappointed. I specifically wanted a volume dial to turn, which is fairly positive, though could be a bit heavier... Its nice to look at too, bright blue light around the volume and red illumination for the other buttons. It has a random function, which is handy for my mp3 cds, though one complaint I do have is that the Previous and Next (<< + >>) buttons, do not do random, they move to the next song number. I feel this could easily be improved. Clear sound, with no cd skipping so far for me, and I have been down some fairly rough tracks. Compared with our old PURE Elan (Christmas 2005) the Elan RV40 is such a disppointment. Our first DAB radio was so easy to use; the 8 presets were not only a doddle to programme, but were a "one touch" operation to flit between, making it the ideal kitchen radio, in a busy teenager shared home. Sadly the on/off switch decided not to play any more, and after a month of leaving the radio on, and using the volume control instead, we decided to be more environmentally friendly and replace it. The RV40 was a mistake. To change the radio station, you must now press; the preset button, followed by the + button, for as many times, as to equal the number of the preset, and then press select. The system fits well in our living room which is not very big. Easy to assemble and operate. Sound quality is good enough. The only down side is - lots of cables and wires which any system will have unless it is wireless. And the price is unbeatable. Over all a good deal

Good sound, with reasonable bass quality. My only downside which is the reason I haven't given it 5 stars is it is Bluetooth so meant to be wireless, yet you have to have it plugged into the mains as there is no battery option. Looks good as well

Great little radio alarm, easy to use and set up. Would get 5 stars apart from: waking up to an electronic 'thunk' before the radio starts, clock digits could be larger for the longsighted amogst us. What is the use of the scrolling text at the bottom? Better to use the space for bigger numbers, lets face it, it is an alarm CLOCK, with so many ways of receiving information today, a very slow scrolling pointless piece of text is for what purpose, 'just going to read the alarm clock dear', is not a phrase that springs to mind! The auto dim is great and the box looks aesthetically pleasing, not like a lot of the clunky DAB radios around. Looking for headphones with lots of bass for the likes of dance/trance music ? Then pass. If you are listener of acoustic sounds, classical music, live acoustic performances, strings etc, then this might be what you are looking for. Crystal clear sound is what you'll get, almost like being at the concert yourself... it sounded that clear to me. Comparing the Ultimate Ears with my previous set of Sennheiser, which I bought from Currys, the Sennheiser had much more bass driven sounds which is more suited for hard dance/trance music. I bought this radio for work as it was cheap. I should know by now that you get what you pay for. The radio overall is cheaply constructed and a tinny sound. I have 3 other Pure DAB radios at home which receive twice the amount of stations this one picked from the same location. I phoned the helpline about the reception and when I mentioned the amount of stations my other radio picked up and she summed it all up when she said "they must be much dearer ones" Overall very disappointing.
