I am a complete guitar novice, and I am finding this very useful. It seems more orientated towards electric and there is a strong focus on powerchords. Nevertheless, the product is well-structured and moves forward in a well thought out way. Every lesson is built around a song, and tab/chords are included both on the screen and to print off.

Electronics : Yamaha NP30S-K Portable Digital Piano (silver finish).
I was recently in the market for a new, inexpensive stage piano and took the opportunity to visit a local store to do some market research. This is really important if you're going to use it for more than just tinkering about on, there's no substitute for actually trying before you buy. I have certainly struggled in the past to adapt to my teacher's traditional acoustic piano after playing my older and light-touch electric piano.

The NP30 is compact and inexpensive with decent features (MIDI, 10 Voices, Reverb and optional sustain pedal), but the feel of the Graded Touch keyboard just doesn't feel right. The keys are overly light and plastic and give no discernable feel, having a peculiar mechanical action, I suspect that they ... Read More:

Electronics : Yamaha DGX220 - Digital Piano - 76 Full Size Touch Sensitive Piano Style Keys
I've owned this for a year now and on the whole have been very pleased.

The sound reproduction is superb and the keys are nicely touch-sensitive. The range of sounds is excellent but I have only ever really used it in the realistic 'grand piano' setting. However,to get the best you really cannot do without the optional sustain pedal and this is subject to the niggling fault of arbitrarily reversing its settings from time to time.

For spirited playing I recommend investing in a substantial stand. I bought the fairly cheap one and suffer the consequences of a 'walking piano' unless I moderate my keystrokes. I have just begun to notice a slight mechanical echo in the mid-range keys as well.

However, I ... Read More:
