Electronics : Maxtor Shared Storage II - NAS - 1 TB - HD 500 GB x 2 - RAID 1 - Gigabit Ethernet

It all seemed so promising - easy to setup, well manufactured, nice box etc, 1Gb interface. However it's just been horribly unusable even from a single XP Pro machine on my network - here's the catalog of issues:

Web software is clunky, appears to allow setup of users/folders/shares but doesn't then let them be modified.

NAS disappears off network

NAS is visible but doesn't let files/folders be created

NAS is visible but shows no folders even when they are known to be there

NAS shows files but won't allow them to be opened

NAS shows folders/files but doesn't allow them to be written

NAS presents authentication dialog but no credentials work.
