I know that nothing will persuade die-hard Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop supporters to abandon their favorite software, but when you see what you get for £100 with Corel X3, when compared to about £1000 for the Adobe equivalent, the case is made, at least for me. I have to spend my own money when I buy software software. Having used earlier versions some years ago, I found X3 easy to use and very stable in Win XP. Newbies should expect a steep learning curve, but that is only to be expected with software of this power and capability. Fantastic bit of kit delivered quickly. I fix computers for a living and this means I can pull a hard disk out of practically any desktop or laptop computer (PATA, SATA, 3.5 inch or 2.5 inch) or even an optical drive and plug it into another system to recover data almost instantly. It is not intended as a permanent setup but that was never the intention. As an instant recovery tool it is great. Why 4 stars rather than 5? The supplied cable to convert power from a MOLEX to SATA type power connector is a bit flimsy (the molex pins are loose and look as though they will poke out eventually). One of these came 'free' with an Integral 8GB card I got recently. It works O.K. with small files, (under about 100MB), but has increasingly greater trouble as the size of the file being r goes up. Lots of "wrong parameter" error messages are thrown up. I note that Integral now seem to offer a different reader in their combo offers.

I bought an earlier version of this scanner in (I think) 2000. The current version is the same size, makes the same amount of noise, has the same speed and costs the same. No progress in eight years... Nonetheless, the software has been improved a lot and this results in higher quality pictures at smaller file sizes. Good stuff. Overall this is a solid scanner, it was worked flawlessly over the last few months and its predecessor is still working (on XP). My score: 4 out of 5

I bought the new edition of the G5 because i was looking to replace my dell optical mouse, which wasn't exactly a pleasure to use, the G5 on the other hand is bliss. Performance-wise the tracking and accuracy are both superb. The build quality feels solid and its not an ugly old girl either. The only problems i have witnessed so far is the middle mouse button, which takes some getting used to due to the sensitivity of the scroll right/left buttons, and the weight cartridge. I inserted my weight cartridge without any weights in just to see how it worked and unfortunately its now stuck! Luckily the standard weight doesn't feel too light to me at all. I was sceptical at first whether or not to upgrade my speakers i had logitech Z3 system loud speakers very good bass. After a relentless search i kept coming back to these speakers they just have the whole package for the price and sound phenominal. They are truely loud and very geeky for you gamers out there but i use them for music and they are great. If your budget is around £100 get these the next worthwhile step is £170 creative speakers i found but nearly double the price. Loud, clear, cheap. Awesome
