When the shutter is open it is lens the does the work. So it is never an idea to skimp on investing in good lenses. It is hard to believe that a 11x zoom could be a good lens. But it is. Let me qualify that - it is a great lens for what it is designed for i.e. an ideal one-size-fits-all travel lens. It takes the place of at least two, possibly three lens in your camera bag. Optically it is categorically not a top flight Nikon lens - for best results use software such as DXO in your work flow that can correct for the distortion and boost contrast. The long end is a little soft and there is visible chromatic aberration at the edges - all can be corrected in software. At the shortest end there is noticeable distortion - again correctable. ... I am disappointed to find that this is not a 'Leather Case' as described in the advertisement but only 44 per cent leather which was immediately obvious as it is far too shiny looking and feels like plastic. The case is good in every other way, however it is a misleading description which consumers should be aware of.

I have spent years suffering with an old Tamron 28-200mm zoom lens and had got used to crappy results. I was therefore not expecting much from this budget Canon lens. It therefore came as a very pleasant surprise when I reviewed the first few dozen photographs I took while testing out the lens's capabilities in relatively poor light (right at the end of the day). The results are truly amazing. The pictures are pin sharp. I managed to capture pictures of birds in flight where the individual hairs on the feathers are clearly distinguishable. The build quality is leaps ahead of the poor quality 18-55mm lens that came with my 20D. At this point I can honestly say I'm a very happy bunny indeed....

This isn't the slimmest or tiniest compact digital camera, but it's still easily pocketable (jacket, not shirt!) and for the price, produces great pics in a compact form. The screen is a good size and nice and bright and the extra bit on the zoom makes a difference - most of the competition stops at 3x. The colour choice allows a bit of personalisation. There are an amazing number of presets, but you won't need most of them, and the most important ones are the most accessible. Anyone unused to digital cameras or who is a bit of a technophobe upgrading might find the menus a bit of a fiddle, but for most purposes, they won't be used much. This is my first tripod and im going to be using it mainly for camcorder usage but also it can be used with still cameras. Its really nice and sturdy with thick legs. Ive seen a couple pics of other makes of tripods and the legs look really thin and flimsy! not the case on this tripod! Nice little spirit level is a good feature and really does go from being small to being big! it comes to just above my eye level when fully extended legs and the head cranked up all the way with the neat little lever, and im around 5"9 Now im using a Sanyo Xacti HD700 on it at the moment and thats a really small and light video camera! but the tripod still provides quite smooth panning and tilting! I loved this for the first week but after that it stopped working and was no longer recognised in any USB drives. I hadn't dropped it or done anything that I shouldn't have with it. I can't send it back as it has sensitive data on it so my money is wasted. VERY disappointed.

Excellent! Fits my new Canon Powershot G9 perfectly. It is a really good quality bag, nicely padded and is well designed. It has neat little features too, with little seperate pockets for spare memory card and batteries, as well its own wee rain coat built in. Definitely worth the money!

I have owned the Canon S5 IS for six months and have grown to appreciate its very comprehensive functions, its ease of use, and its astounding capabilities for close-up and telephoto work. Many times, I have been with people using a full SLR camera and they have been very surprised at the fantastic macro shots this camera can take of tiny insects or the insides of flowers. You can literally get up so close that the lens is virtually touching the object you are photographing and it will still be in focus. On the other hand, the 12 times optical zoom enables you to take very clear photographs from a great distance away from the subject - its like looking through a good pair of binoculars.
