This is my 1st wireless router and I have to say it is excellent value for money. It is so easy to set up (on screen prompts) was up and running in 10 minutes. I have to say that the 1st one that arrived was faulty (not the sellers fault) but they replaced it overnight, since then no problems at all. I had my desktop, laptop and PS3 all running at once and there was no lag suffered.

Eventually I've got this to work and it's now repeating a signal from an old D-Link DWL1000AP all over the house. But be warned
(a) It is not as easy to set up as D-Link claim, and
(b) By and large, their technical support are really dreadful.

The whole trick is to gear your DWL-G710 to the slowest component on your LAN. If you set the transmission rate to 'auto' and expect it to find the best rate itself, you're in for a very frustrating time. I found this out the hard way and it's only when I set the Tx rate to 11mbps that it all came together.

Essentially, the configuration is quite easy. You need to connect the G710 via the cable provided to a laptop, but you have to assign a static IP address close to ... Read More:

Insert PC Card. Insert Installation CD. Start enjoying wireless connections - anywhere! Seriously, it is that simple. I have enjoyed hassle free access to wireless hotspots at all speeds on 802.11a, b & g standards. Also connections to corporate WLANS with minimal set up. Should the minimal set-up even be required, the Netgear software can remember the profile, so you don't have to do it again. Also the multiple levels of encryption and security ensure your signal won't be interfered or tampered with. For wireless access at any speed, any where you can log on, you really can't go wrong with this product! Enjoy!!!

97.Targus USB to Serial (RS232) Adapter from: Targus

The item information here on Amazon and the item description on the manufaturers website state that it has a FEMALE serial connector - it doesn't! They appear to have changed item spec's and it now ships with a male serial connector and NO adaptor in the pack. Be sure this is what you want before ordering.

Minor note: the included driver, needed for Windows XP use, ships on a mini-CD and these CDs should NOT be used in certain slot-loading optical drives - better to download the current driver from Targus's website.

This machine is unreliable when using more than one VLAN with the current firmware. That makes it relatively useless as a smart switch. Read other reviews.

99.D-Link DSL-G624M Wireless 108G MIMO ADSL router from: D-Link

Electronics : D-Link DSL-G624M Wireless 108G MIMO ADSL router
With routers, it can be a bit of a steep learning curve to begin with (if you are not already completely familiar with network technology). The manual could be more helpful in this regard. For basic functionality, there are some features you may not need to use, but it is nice to have them anyway. I bought this router because it was cheaper than rival products, did away with the need for an ADSL modem, extended the range of my network, and increased the speed. One thing to note is that in order for the wireless network to work at full capacity it is necessary to use MIMO network adapters from D-Link, such as the DWL-G520M.

+++ Update: the time and date setting have failed after three years. It is very difficult to establish a connection ... Read More:
