this is a fab little book. i work in a small coffee shop and bake cakes to sell there, my customers love the St Lucia banana cake and i often have to bake 2 a week to keep them happy.its rich without the heavyness of a fruit cake, scrummy.

This book reintroduced me to the kitchen after long avoiding it (it's amazing how long you can survive on cold spaghetti hoops and sandwiches). I admit I was entranced by the cover picture, and for about two weeks it sat wrapped up on the side with me wondering what on earth posessed me to buy it. When I did finally pluck up the courage to read it I was so glad I did. It not only serves as the most wonderful food porn, but it's non-patronising and really easy to follow. Not only do I love lusting over the sound of the confections, I really really enjoy baking them. I've had only one item go awry-the courgette cake-but even as a sunken mess it tasted fantastic. I think anyone who loves cakes should have this on their shelf.

To date I have only used four recipes from the book,they have all turned out perfectly,so am looking forward to trying a few more. I like the fact that I'm not using sugar in plain everyday loaves,and, for me it will be the book to return to.

I have made several of the recipes in this book and all have been delicious, i particularly like the section on Traybakes, which as a mum is perfect for school teas and birthdays, i have had lots of compliments from the results of this book and am always recommending it to others.

I only started making bread a few weeks ago. I have got a breadmaker but I do a lot by hand as well and this book caters for both methods. Another very good thing is the fact that you can choose how big a loaf you want to make (500g, 750g or 1kg) and the ingredient quantities are already adjusted for you! An awesome book, a great investment and a fantastic incentive to get you into making bread - it definitely worked on me!

These cakes look exceptionally creative and interesting. They're fascinating to look at, possibly because they don't look real. However, some don't look tasty and in some cases they don't look edible. Lindy understands this is complicated and overwhelming for the reader on the first few pages when she introduces the equipment and ingredients needed. She also warns that it is time consuming (some take over 2 hours just to bake and can take up to a week to decorate). Although they look like something only a professional could achieve, when she teaches you how to create these cakes it seems really simple. This was the first book I bought before starting classes in cake decorating. Although I am more advanced now I found I could acheive really good results with this book when I had limited skills and knowledge. They are simple enough to do when you have young children around that want to help. My grandchildren all helped decorate their own birthday cakes chosen from this book, we started with the pirate ship with chocolate bar gang planks. Although sometimes you have to be a little inventive and substitute some of the sweets that are not readily available here, part of the fun is thinking up alternatives to use in the planning stage with the children, and they were very good at coming up with ideas of what to use instead.

A lovely book to own. I will try some of Eric's creations and hope they will be as wonderful as his. I went on one of his cookery courses in London which was fantastic - his book echo's his cakes in his shop - Glamourous!

I bought this book as a companion for the Panasonic SD253 Breadmaker, which it lists as a suitable breadmaker for the recipies in the book, I have now been using it ( and the breadmaker) for about a month. The recipe for the bread mix I have found one of the most useful things,it gives a flour mix that is stable and well behaved, holds a good rise and -most importantly, makes bread that tastes like bread, and not some weird experiment in a chemical lab, which is what most commercial bred tastes like! I started off with the basic everyday white bread mix, which worked well, gave a good, well flavoured loaf, which lasted well, and was moist enough to toast when it went a bit stale.
