This is a very good book for beginners and also has some very useful tips for more advanced cake decorators. The best part of this book is the very detailed and step-by-step way in which flower-making in sugarcraft is explained with photos for every stage for flowers - for example, a rose is explained in 6 stages. However there are only very few flowers - the best ones are the rose, sweet pea and poppy. Also there is an overview of all the techniques you will ever need in decorating a cake - piping, lace making, smocking, figure-modelling, runouts,etc. The only section I found a bit disappointing was the children's cakes section, which I felt did not have any new or interesting ideas. But, overall - an excellent buy.

I'm not great at baking but was encouraged to buy the book for the beer bread. All the breads and cakes that I have tried to bake have been so simple and very tasty. It's simple to follow and easy to bake with great recipes for every occasion. Well worth the money and growing belly.

This is such a beautiful selection of cakes for children. The pirate dreams cake of a sleepy boy setting sail on his bed in the sea is so lovely and I have made it a few times, it's such a lovely change to a standard pirate ship or treasure chest. My daughter has been asking for the sleeping beauty cakes for months and her birthday has finally come around and she will be getting that one next week. I would say that not all of Debbie's cakes are that easy for beginners, I make cakes for a living fo am happy to tackle any of these but I remember the days that Debbie's books were just ones I flicked through but did not attempt and this could be one of those for people with less experience. I purchased this book over the weekend and was slightly dissapointed. Firstly as it's an american cookbook the measurments are in cup measures so if like me you don't have a cup measure don't use your mug you have your tea as this definately will not work. My real dissapointment was that there is only ONE photo in the entire book. The only tasty think about this book is it's cover. The receipes themselves don't sound too inviting. Personally if like me you like to see a picture of what your end result should look like (Not that mine ever look as perfected as in the picture's) then this book is not for you and definately not for me!

please my memory of paris is not of burnt products,picture after picture of charred items ,please no french person in their right mind would allow such pictures of their beloved food to be shown in such a way,i have spent a lot underline lot of money on books and as a chef myself feel very strongly on the subject if you have no knowledge about a product you have no right no right to produce a book on a subject which clearly shows you know nothing about,this is definitly the worst book i have ever bought,i would not even atempt to recreate the supposed recipes,i do not trust the author and would not like to waste my product or time

A great book with some excellent ideas. Major drawback is that all weights and measures are in "cups". Not an easy method to grasp when most of the world uses "mils" or "grams". Cooking times are very ambitious, ie if I cook any of my bread for the 45 minutes stated in a lot of recipes I will end up with charcoal. That being said, for the person who uses recipe books as a guide, and not as an instruction book, this is an excellent read.
