I thought this book contained some nice and well illustrated recipes, even if some were so basic and well known that the average cook would already have them in several standard cookbooks. A couple of her famous 'novelty' cake recipes, perhaps suited to childrens birthdays, would have been welcome. The book gave the impression there were loads of additional recipes Jane would have liked to include but couldn't - why not!? Her enthusiasm is encouraging, but unless you are already a Jane Asher fan, you may find her writing style and little anecdotes a bit twee and irratating and her overuse of parentheses (brackets) is truly infuriating!!

I have had a bread machine for nearly 2 years and have struggled to find any recipes that are easy to follow and more importantly produce great results. This book is amazing. There is a wide range of breads and things with lovely illustrations and simple instructions. A must for anyone with a bread machine.

This book is very easy to follow. It was possible to bake a lovely professional looking birthday cake for my little son's first birthday even though I'm no professional cook or cake maker. Enjoyed every moment.

Brillant book for beginners.It shows you how to make the little models step by step & gives you little tips as well.You can make the models bigger or smaller .

This is a great all round book with good layout and lots of nice photos. It covers lots of basic recipes so there is something for every occasion. I've made the Apple Cake twice and it is really delicious, and, importantly, looks good - making it all the more impressive when served to non-vegans. Not all the recipes call for egg replacer - lots give flax seeds as the main replacer or as an option. I would definitely recommend this book, along with Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, for anyone interested in vegan baking.

The high quality patisseries of Paris are an extraordinary visual treat and their patisserie would be a deadly addiction were it not so rich (and expensive). Unless you employ help in the kitchen, this book should be viewed as a tour of the top Paris cake shops rather than a recipe book . In trying to recreate the gateaux in this book you might lose the will to live. Home bakery is for me half the fun of creation and half the fun seeing it disappear but this book is about art. I've also long held the suspicion that some of the awe inspiring creations are given stability and attenuation of taste by the inclusion of tallow, just as they use lard in their best croissants I think certain all butter patisserie could collapse under its own weight or ... This is not one of the popular books that always shows up in the top sellers of the baking section (like Mary Berry or Nigella Lawson for example) and I just recently discovered it wanting to extend my baking book collection a bit ... and what a wonderful choice it was! I am SO pleased I bought it - even though it is far shorter than most of the "baking bibles" out there it is such a gem to have in your kitchen simply because everything works. Sue Lawrence's book contains sweet and savoury recipes (about 30% are savoury ones), with precise and clear instructions making sure that they work for you. In fact, I am so impressed with it that this has become my new favourite after years of using the Leith's Baking Bible. Perhaps it just suits ... Read More:
