Now this book sure has lots of recipes! It's crammed with them! It has the feel of an edited selection, scattergun, rather than carefully chosen favourites. There are no pictures, so you need to be able to read a recipe and visualise it to know what you are getting. Some come direct from websites and others are family favourites of the two authors.

However, there are some interesting recipes in there, some unusual grains; Teff,Sorghum and Amaranth for example. In the world of gluten free this represents a departure from the white flour facsimiles of most recipe books.

I would recommend this book if you know what you're doing in the kitchen and love baking. Put a star by the recipes you've tried and enjoyed and get yourself ... Read More:

The book size is a disappointment but for a very small book the content is an interesting combination of recipes with quite a lot of different styles.
The instructions are clear if you like to use US cups, but the book quality was initially disappointing with the only picture on the cover.

257.The Cake Bible by: Rose Levy Beranbaum

Food and Drink : The Cake Bible
This is the book for you if you want to understand the chemistry of cake-making. If you are the sort of cake-baker who likes to fiddle with recipes, Rose Berebaum has been there before you. Invaluable guidance on increasing and decreasing the size of a recipe, as well where to buy difficult to find items. After 15 years of owning this book it is still my best bedside read. If you follow her (prescise) instructions you can't fail to produce fabulous cakes. Not aimed at the beginner but it will take you through to the heights of cake-making.

258.Bread Machine Basics by: Jennie Shapter

Food and Drink : Bread Machine Basics
An excellent balance, presenting reference information in such a way that the beginner can just read through it, whilst the experienced reader can dip in and out.
My machine has a Quickbread or Cake programme, so I was delighted to find a dedicated section. And I found the recipe adaption with worked example very helpful so I can use my bread machine to make many of my old favourite cake recipes.
Highlight? Sticky ginger cake. Maybe not "TO DIE FOR", but certainly "TO break your DIEt FOR"!
