This is a delightful book for any parents who are starting to wean their baby, and who have an interest in providing healthy, home cooked food for their child from the very first tastes of food and well into childhood.

The book is well set out, easy to refer to and attractive to look at. The recipes are interesting and tasty, and more importantly, quick and easy to follow. There really is no excuse after reading this book for feeding your baby commercial jars of baby food!

This book is excellent value for money, and the author fully deserves the acclaim she receives for her renown in this field. Congratulations also to Nadine Wickenden for her charming illustrations.

'My Life in France' is a superb book that effuses with that wonderful endearing quality we have all come to know and love in Julia Child. The book focuses mainly on the early years of developing her first cookbooks and television show.

The book begins when she and her husband, Paul, make their first trip to France because of his new job assignment. You feel her giddy excitement upon landing on the shores of a place she had for so long desired to go. We hear in minute detail the look, smell and taste of her first French meal, and from there we are introduced to "La Belle France". Before I began the book, I wondered for how long I could sustain reading each night about a person's breakfast, lunch or dinner meal that had been eaten ... Read More:

Elaine Hamilton's greatest desire is to be a chef like Julia Child. She practices her French cooking skills every evening at dinner, and has recipes memorized. She teaches her younger brothers about slicing and peeling. She even writes letters to Julia Child about her cooking, but has been too afraid to send any of them. Most of Elaine's family loves her cooking, but her congresswoman mother has high hopes for her shy daughter and they don't include anything in the kitchen.

Isadora Wilhelminetta Fischburger, who has re-named herself Lucida Sans after the font, wishes to be famous. The problem is Lucida doesn't have any stand out talents. Lucida is known around school as the girl in the crazy costumes and wigs who is always trying to ... Read More:

This is not a basic cookbook for young children as I had hoped. It isn't "to inspire an early appreciation for creative, wholesome food" or at "child level" as claimed. It is more of your high end Nigella type idealism but very American and unsuitable at least in it's basic form without adaption for young children to learn cooking skills independently, or follow through on healthy eating promotion.

Examples...
The majority of recipes require a skillet "it is ideal" in fact...but I actually don't have one of those to hand, and not the required electric version. This is the basis for safe child involvement and hence without it, the reader has to adapt and substitute. Other equipment cited included regularly microwaves juicers ... Read More:

Food and Drink : Mastering the Art of French Cooking: 002 (Mastering the Art of French Cooking)
This contains many useful techniques supplementing those set out in the first volume of this pair.
A large portion of the book, however, is given over to extremely elaborate recipes requiring copious amounts of time and access to an old-fashioned butcher.

If you don't have a PhD in cuts of meat, then the meat recipes will be tricky.

The actual ingredients suggested in lots of dishes are unimaginative and whole slews of different recipes end up tasting the same, despite massively time-consuming techniques involved.

This book is, however, pretty essential as a complement to the first volume, in order that your training in French cookery be complete.

The book is of more limited use for family cooking or even ... Read More:
