I really enjoyed reading this straight through, cover to cover. Jay McInereney writes beautifully and shares his personal taste (and insights) on the subject of wine in a delightfully charming and under stated manner. Despite the fact that I probably have similar tastes and views as the author on the subject matter this should not deter a prospective reader with interest and empathy for the greatest intoxicant - Wine ! McInereney has demonstrated in this book why wine provides intellectual as well as sensual pleasure that leads us into the realms of " geology, botany, metreology , history aesthetics aand literature "

Without a doubt the best wine book I have seen. Superbly laid out with easy to follow references. This book teaches practical knowledge on every page which comes to life in step by step tasting experiences. Michael Schuster has a great knack of bringing enjoyment to this art. The first book I have read that explains why a certain wine matches a certain food. I just want to read, learn and taste more.

We take an off season break (ie when it's raining but inexpensive!) in Catalonia each year with friends. I bought this book after one such and it now comes with us on each trip. Jenny Chandler has filled the book with some excellent, often very straight forward, recipes ranging geographically from Galicia on the Northwestern tip of Spain, right across to Barcelona. She does a good job of explaining regional differences in ingredients and technique and enlivens the book with plenty of relevant anecdote. In addition, the illustrating photos are of very high quality and Chandler provides a clear and concise guide to the wines of the region that makes a very welcome change from just buying Rioja. I bought this book after having been converted to juicing by Amanda Hamilton. I was bored with the juices offered and wanted a bit more variety. But what I got in this book is so much more than expected. It has a great selection and all I have tried have been delicious but the vitamin breakdown, advice on particular ailments etc set this book apart. Plus in answer to one of the other reviewers - yes I have seen real health benefits from juicing. Just from replacing breakfast with a juice, I lost tons of weight without feeling hungry, my skin has never been so healthy and other irritating things I thought I would just have to live with have disappeared.

This book was recommended to me while I was in a cocktail bar in London - it is easily the best cocktail book I have read! Not only does it contain hundreds of recipes and serving instructions, it explores the history of ingredients like the differnce between Bourbon, Rye, Irish and Tennessee whiskey; recommending the best ones to use for which cocktail. Written by the man who made the 'Cosmopolitan' famous, I found this a great read - and so did all my family at Christmas!
