If I had one criticism of the last couple of editions of this otherwise excellent book it was that it was not possible to tell the good beers from the not so good. Now you get everything you got in previous editions plus a rating system. Jeff Evans is obviously a man who really loves his bottled beers and what he doesn't know doesn't seem to be worth knowing on this particular subject. I would definitely recommend this as a stocking filler for Christmas although you'll obviously need your own copy to work out what you should be buying to drink at Christmas in the first place. Cheers!

I found the style of this book very good, you can dip in and out to the chapters that are relevant to you, and it's full of useful tips particularly when it comes to avoiding potential pitfalls. It appeals newcomers to the industry, or prehaps someone currently working in a bar, and wants to take it to the next level but does not have a business background. My only criticism of this book and many others in this category is that it is a written from a US perspective, so the sections on finance, licensing and legal side are not that useful.

Ben Howkins has written an excellent book that lists and details all aspects of port that one could possibly want to know. Whether one is merely a temporary fan of the drink, or a lifelong follower, this book will provide interesting and relevant information for all. Howkins has a clear style of writing that makes a nervous reader comfortable. It is clearly written by an expert content to pass on his knowledge. An excellent present for port and wine lovers, replacing the traditional wine gifts with something a little more exceptional, as port is.

If you are interested in wine, and in claret in particular, this book is simply indispensible. Whether you agree or disagree with Robert Parker's approach, his opinions shape the wine world. In fact, we could do with a new and updated edition.

This book is one that I wished for for years. I didn't it existed until I bought Sally Fallons book. I have always wanted to know more about fermentation and this book clearly describes a lot of way of fermenting various veggies and how to make sourdough etc. There is no meat and fish in there, but I sure do hope that Sandor will also write a book on the meat and fish fermenting topic. I would surely buy it. Back to the roots is how I would call it, and with that, back to a better health.
