The Art of the Cocktail is a fantastic guide covering only those cocktails that really matter in life: this is not a book about cheap mix-in-as-much-as-you-can cocktails, but about the great Classic. There is an almost mozartian struggle to simplicity in the way the ingredients are stripped to the bare essential and in the same time those few ingredients are the only necessary ones. I never managed to find a better recipe for a Singapore Sling than Philip Collins', not even at the Raffles Hotel. Next to the content I must praise the form: the way the recipes are shown next to beautiful pictures, the way the same recipes are not crammed all together, but displayed each one on a single page, the anecdotes ... If you are looking for something ... Read More:

I obtained this book (as most do) in order to complete the Higher certificate course of the Wines and Spirits Education Trust (WSET)... for this purpose it is, literally, invaluable. However, if you're looking to find out more about wine production, regions, grapes, etc. and you have a basic understanding (i.e. you drink wine on a regular basis) then I would also recommend this book. It may seem like a lot of money when compared to other, more glossy wine encyclopedias written by wine celebs, but it is packed full of the basic facts, maps, simple diagrams etc. OK so the style of writing won't send you straight out to the nearest 'offy', and the content sometimes reads as though 'somebody needs to lighten up a little', but it's all there... The Scotch Whisky Distilleries by Misako Udo, is the ultimate reference for all the technical details about the Scotch Distilleries. Also referred as the "Blue Book" or the "Blue Bible", this is my favorite reference book. In this book, you will find all the details that you might be looking for about your favorite distillery. It is exhaustive and no other book matches the level of information provided by Misako Udo. Don't be surprised if you find this book in the office of a distillery manager or a tour guide!
From the last edition, the layout has been improved and it is more "reader-friendly".
Unless your are looking for an introductory book about Scotch whisky, just get it!

Since developing an RSI through overuse of my right wrist, I bought this as I have always wanted a handy-sized book with decent cocktail recipes in it, light enough to hold in one hand. It makes for ideal reading not least because I can read it comfortably whilst giving the cocktail mixer a vigorous shake with the other.

George Moudiotis has gathered a rich and varied collection of Greek recipes and presents them with a dgree of wit and humour very rare in such a book. This is one of my favourite cookery books. It is a ludicrous bargain at its price. Unlike other reviewers, however, I find myself rebalancing ingredients in some recipes - but then I would do that, I suspect, whoever wrote the book. It is a wonderfully enjoyable book, full of character and atmosphere.

I bought this book for my husband shortly before we started planning a series of wine-themed holidays and it's been a great planning tool. It has a good mix of vineyards, bars, musuems, shops, etc and includes some interesting "wine facts" along the way. Price guides are in dollars, but it's not a great hindrance to the UK reader. It also includes some of the less obvious wine regions (the UK, for example) and covers the more obvious ones in sufficient details.

I bought this cookbook in the hope that it would give me some ideas for low weight watcher point meals. Fair enough it does that, but the weight watchers recipes it contains are American, so the point value isn't the same as UK ones. The recipes look great but some of the ingredients it mentions often aren't one's we're familiar with in the UK. Save your money, this book is great if you live in the USA and are following an American Weight Watchers diet, but not much good to those of us in the UK.
