Good book with plenty of useful and cultural info. As for the practical side of it...I found some lack of dishes on "japanese fast food chains" like yoshinoya where I coudn't find how to pronounce some kanji (although you can always point at the pictures as a last resort). Overall a good buy, but give a it good read before you arrive to Japan. Knowing the chapters on the book will speed up the process of finding and ordering the dishes.

This book is the most comprehensive, entertaining and readable cocktail guide I have come across. Its presentation is excellent and the cross references make it easy to find both innovative and traditional cocktails for every make of alcohol. The details about the ingredients and the methods are clear and informative and I have really learned a lot from it. A must for both the reference library and the coffee table as it is both fun and practical and is the only guide you will ever need.

i love love love this book and am amazed there's no reviews here! i bought this by chance and loved it so much i've now got every one of his other books. it made me laugh out loud and the recipes are just amazing. i always end up with left over fruit/veg and the combinations in here i woud never have thought of! if you like juices/smoothies/milkshakes this is the only book you'll need! much better than the innocent smoothie one in my opinion!
