The book tells the history of the wheat beer, which was very interesting. The different kinds of wheat beers are decreibed in detail. The brewing process for big breweries are decreibed in detail.In the end there are two extract recipies and 5 allgrain recipies for homebrewers in metric and american measurements. All in all the book covers the subject very well for the homebrewer and the microbrewer.
But you get very thirsty when you are reading the book !

Homebrewing for Dummies, reviewed by a self confessed homebrew dummy. The book as a whole is pretty good. it starts simply and continues slowly building on the information already imparted in the early chapters using easy to follow plain english. If you're starting from the position that you know nothing (except for the fact that you don't want to pay supermarket prices for beer) then this is the book for you.

There are some problems for UK readers in that the measurements are in US, i.e. a pint is sixteen fluid ounces rather than the British Imperial 20 oz, and the knock on effect is that the quart is 36oz and the US Gallon is 22oz (a pint and a bit) less than a standard UK Imperial Gallon. One of the entrys - The Three Chimney's on Skye - recently featured in the Top 20 places to stay worldwide in Conde Naste Traveller. Other featured establishments such as Turnbery, Cameron House, and Gleneagles - with Michelin starred Andrew Fairlie - are also world famous. Obviously, being geographically distant from the main centres of population the chefs must try harder to tempt patrons to their establishments. This does show in the recipes.

The chefs featured in this book follow well troden path of best local produce in season. Indeed many of them are so far from the central belt it would be madness to attempt anything else. This means that some of the ... Read More:
