this is an okay book but there is very little that makes you go 'mmmm yeah ill have to make that' i think i ll keep looking for that perfect tapas book

I do a lot of entertaining and have recently got into napkin folding. I have bought 11 books on the subject and this one is definitely the best. This is very much an instructional book rather than a pretty picture book which for the serious reader is ideal. It just has b/w line drawings with excellent instructions and a lot of information including making your own napkins and rings. Friends who are not really interested in the subject preferred looking at the books with colour photographs - but for me this is the best of the lot!

I originally borrowed this book from the library and was so impressed decided to purchase my own copy. It is full of good ideas for party games and certainly will form the basis of my daughter's fast approaching 3rd birthday party. We've already been playing some of the games as a family. It is organised by age group - it covers 1-5 years - so its easy to select the appropriate games. Well worth the money.

This book is full of some very realistic looking flowers. It can be alittle difficult to understand how to make some of the flowers at first because to make some I think you need some experience, but having said that once you have a basic understanding, if you reread how to make some of the flowers, it makes alot more sence.Some of the cutters I have found are quite difficult to find, but once you have found them, Alison makes about ten different flowers from the same design. At the end of the book you can see some of her cakes she has made from the flowers and are so realistic and beautiful. I cannot praise this lovely book too highly. It has all the David magic - exquisite prose, trenchant opinions and luscious recipes: some are of academic interest but nonetheless fascinating; most are dishes of simplicity but also subtlety and finesse. The closing essay 'Para Navidad' is perhaps one of the most perfect writings about food I have ever read. Congratulations too, to the book designer and the photographer. The beautiful cover is a true indicator of the delights within and Elizabeth David, who had a keen visual sense, would have loved the photographs which are not so much of cooked dishes but of simple, pure, beautiful ingredients that make you want to dash off to the kitchen and set to. After buying the first Confetti Cakes book I have had this on pre-order for yonks and was very excited when it arrived this week. The front cover is a true indication of the great designs inside. The Sweetie Factory is an amazing 2 tier whimsical cake - very Willy Wonka - and one that I will be persuading my kids to have for their birthdays without a doubt. I make cakes for a living and think all of the designs are fun, colourful and achievable by all levels and the cupcakes and biscuits would look fabulous at any kids party. This is a great inspirational book to have in your collection, I love it.

Another brilliant cake book from Debbie Brown. The designs in this book can be approached by a first time cake maker or a professional. I make cakes for a living and own all of Debbie Brown's books, I think she has the best style of all the current novelty cake authors at the moment. The instructions are easy to follow and all the designs are very appealing. I would only put her 50 Easy Party Cakes book ahead of this one for kids cakes.
