I learned about this book from my local Raw Food Group that has potlucks once a month. My friend and I have served a few dishes from this book at that event and other events and everyone raves about the "eggless egg salad" (I LOVE IT myself). Also, the "raw tacos", "Thai Salad" (another TO DIE FOR recipe) and the "pierogies" are amazing! I can't tell you how many times I've made these recipes. I think that each recipe in the book has a picture of how it looks prepared. I love that in a cook book! I've definietly gotten my money's worth out of it!

I bought the authors' newer work, The Flavor Bible: The Essential Guide to Culinary Creativity, Based on the Wisdom of America's Most Imaginative Chefs, which describes itself as covering "modern" flavour combinations, whereas this earlier work covers "classic" flavour combinations. It also says in that other book that it ought to be used in conjunction with this earlier work (and also with their work on food and drink matching, What to Drink with What You Eat: The Definitive Guide to Pairing Food with Wine, Beer, Spirits, Coffee, Tea - Even Water). So, I duly went ahead and got this book too. However, I honestly cannot see anything in this earlier book which warrants getting it if you have the later work, as the later work appears ... I panic bought this as my son's first birthday approached. The recipes each with their colour photo are BRILLIANT. I have got some everyday favourite recipes out of here such as the easy 3 ingredient slice - which is actually a no oven cook super easy flapjack, the honey coating for chicken is just the best I have tried and got eaten by adults and children alike. The book is worth it alone for these 2 recipes. Still more I haven't tried, but they all look great!

I made my first wedding cake from this book as a guide. I owned most of the cake decorating books but this one is very easy, less stressing and simple but beautiful. It's made with Buttercream which is more delicious than the fondant icing. It's a kind of wedding cake which is lighter than the fruit cake version and very elegant as a center of attraction for that special day. Very palatable looking that you don't hesitate to slice and serve it right away with coffee or tea after that heavy dinner.

Worth checking that this doesn't already appear on your bookshelf, as this is an old book with a nice new dust-jacket - underneath is the somewhat dated looking original gold cover, hence the make-over, I guess! This book is very easy to follow. It was possible to bake a lovely professional looking birthday cake for my little son's first birthday even though I'm no professional cook or cake maker. Enjoyed every moment.

I bought this book, having tried several of James Martin's others and having found them to be excellent, sadly the binding on this book is poor, with pages falling out in batches as you open it to use it ....... what a shame given the content which is second to none, and the layout which has obviously had a great deal of thought put into it, as it takes you through halloween, bonfire night, and Christmas with lots of great ideas for winter warming recipes both traditional and new...... a definite recommend for the content, but a thumbs down to the publishers on the shoddy binding.

we thought this book was an easy to use guide to cooking. Nice photo's of the final results which is a great help to the finished product. Lovely ingrediants which are easy to find in the supermarkets, and not too expensive. A reader from essex.
