I have had this book on my shelves for a couple of years now and unfortunately didnt look at it being more into the low fat way of eating. Ive been vegetarian for approx 20 years and have been putting on weight since a cholecystectomy 12 years ago. The key thing for this diet is that this book has enabled me to diet without feeling hungry - cravings are at a minimum. Weight loss wise the first couple of weeks I lost nearly a stone and loss has been around 2-3 lbs since then. While it requires some form of dedication from the dieter, the author has adapted low carb foods for the vegetarian/vegan diet amazingly well and with great creativity. This has helped me no end. Jeanette Orrey has finally written the book I have been searching for in years....I have 4 young kids and have been trying to find recipies which were good old fashioned meals like I was given as a child. Her values and beliefs regarding eating habits mirror my own - I have tried many of the dishes and the kids loved them (even the fussy child)!!! I am eagerly awaiting the second book arriving! I never cooked before i bought this book (frozen pre-cooked food doesn't count!). The dishes are hard to screw up, proven by the fact that i have not. The meals are very easy to make and taste even better,not to forget they are also CHEAP to make. To sum it up, this book has made cooking something that can be done without a lot of time and effort and yields great results.

I've just gone back through this cookbook as what put me off to start with is the lack of pictures for every dish, however in recent weeks I've made several of the recipes - the roasted goats cheese vegetable couscous is a real hit and the leg of lamb wih rosemary is a stunning summer dish. This is a great cookbook for summer - and fairly health conscious too - I hadn't realised Delia is a weight watcher!

I bought this book years ago, eight to be precise, and it has travelled with me to India and Dubai constantly being used to the point I need to cover it with plastic it is so messed up. I enjoyed cooking the dishes I have tasted all over Asia. My only criticism is that I wanted to be able to index the recipes with the hindi names for dishes from this country but it hardly matters. I have copied recipes to give to friends who have never heard of some of the food and they too have had fun cooking new flavours.I dont need pictures - I love to experiment listening to sounds the names of the veg and spices. Who needs meat with these kinds of recipes to hand.

I tried one recipe from this book and it was awful - simply inedible. This cookbook is now in the re-cycling bin.

What a delight to find this book. All of the other reviewers are spot on with their championing of this treasure-trove of gorgeous recipes. As with her other books, Roden gives amusing and interesting anecdotes while relating the recipes and you can imagine the communities and individuals whence the recipes derive. It is a must for any kitchen, with informal and easy to follow recipes making effortlessly delicious meals and treats. Highly recommended!

This book is great - great recipes of course, but also a really useful list of suppliers. My favourite though is the section at the back of recipes for accompaniments to serve with the main dishes. It's so nice to have a bit of help working out what the perfect foil to your hard work should be!

I'm a huge mushroom fan when it comes to food, so when I received this book as a present I was over the moon. The book is split into two sections, the first deals with identifying wild mushrooms and which are the best for eating, and the second part contains the recipes. The recipes are great and very accessible. I haven't been on a mushroom hunt yet, but my local greengrocer regularly stocks wild mushrooms, so I've had the chance to try a few of the recipes, and very good they are too.

This is a fantatstic book and saved the day when we bought an old house and inherited a 16-year old AGA. I was petrified of it at first but once I read through this book I was able to get going straight away. The book falls roughly into 3 parts. The first tells you all about AGAs - the different sorts you can get, a little bit of history and some of the other things you can do with an AGA (other than cooking!). The next section explains about the equipment you'll need and arrangements for servicing, with the final section covering recipes and techniques. I was expecting some really dull, stodgy recipes but I got it totally wrong. The recipes range from the traditional game casseroles through to risottos and pasta dishes.
