Jeanette Orrey has finally written the book I have been searching for in years....I have 4 young kids and have been trying to find recipies which were good old fashioned meals like I was given as a child. Her values and beliefs regarding eating habits mirror my own - I have tried many of the dishes and the kids loved them (even the fussy child)!!! I am eagerly awaiting the second book arriving! I bought this book years ago, eight to be precise, and it has travelled with me to India and Dubai constantly being used to the point I need to cover it with plastic it is so messed up. I enjoyed cooking the dishes I have tasted all over Asia. My only criticism is that I wanted to be able to index the recipes with the hindi names for dishes from this country but it hardly matters. I have copied recipes to give to friends who have never heard of some of the food and they too have had fun cooking new flavours.I dont need pictures - I love to experiment listening to sounds the names of the veg and spices. Who needs meat with these kinds of recipes to hand.

I admit I do a lot of cooking, and consequently find this book easy to follow. I have around 100 cookbooks by many chef's, from Delia Smith (Safe and easy 1st time recipes) to Thomas Keller (Loads of practice needed, but worth it). Michel Roux's "Eggs" is one of my favourites, and superb for filling in a rainy Sunday morning. Every recipe I've tried from this book has taken my cooking up a level in flavour and texture, with the only limit from perfection being my own inability in presentation. The book covers the versatility of eggs superbly, with a myriad of applications included - and the explanations are excellent. This was my first Ramsay cookbook and after using the recipes in here for a highly successful dinner party for friends, I am now a devoted Gordon Ramsay follower. His recipes are detailed, his advice authoritative and the presentation and layout is spot on. Contrary to one of the previous reviews, there are plenty of pictures in this book and if a hopeless cook like myself can create these recipes to perfection (whilst also managing to satisfy and impress an extremely fussy Italian friend), there's hope for EVERYONE! This book comes highly recommended! Enjoy!

I have tried Bethany Simpson on this plan "Behind My Smile" A look at Juvenile Arthritis and she is having a little positive change to her health already. Bethany is finding it easier to breath and to tackle the stairs. It is a real hope for us as seeing your child in so much pyshical and emotional pain is soul destroying. The honey especially is helping and she seems a bit calmer. We have only been following for 4 days so I have high hopes. I would love her to come off the anti-tnf drugs even though they are helping we can see the side effects. Thank you for writing the book. JULIE AND BETHANY SIMPSON

It is always a sheer pleasure to read his books. But this one stands out: it starts off with his diary, and gradually shows you traditional French cuisine (and a few exotic dishes French people eat). The book itself has a calm and nostalgic tone in the background (one pity is not all recipes have a picture of the finished dish. So unless you have seen the programme, it is difficult to see if you got it right) I do know that some poeple were a little puzzled / annoyed, and I did feel the same when, in this programme, he highly praised French cuisine and by contrast slugged off Britain and its food culture a little ... specially this programme was made right after his "Food Heroes in Britain" where he had praised British produce and producers. ... This was the first book I bought by Ainsley Harriott and up to now all of the recipes I have tried have been fantastic. You seriously can't go wrong with his recipes! If you do buy this book, please, please try his Tikka Massala, it's to die for. I can guarantee you will think twice about ordering a curry from the local Indian Takeaway once you have tried Ainsleys! My husband and I made it for 20 hungry RAF personnel and it went down a storm!! I would also recommend the salmon fish cakes, cheesy fish pie, the quiche recipe...oh the list goes on. I always turn to this book when I'm not too sure what to make for our evening meal and we are never disappointed with the results, it truly is a fantastic asset to any kitchen.
