we thought this book was an easy to use guide to cooking. Nice photo's of the final results which is a great help to the finished product. Lovely ingrediants which are easy to find in the supermarkets, and not too expensive. A reader from essex.

I recently purchased this book at Waterstones for £12.99 for a friend that had no idea how to cook (I personally did not put myself in that category- at first). I came home and browsed through it and was totally amazed at how many recipes that were usable. (Most cookery books I have bought I may have used half a dozen recipes at the most), I immediately got on to amazon to order it and realised I could save over £4.00. The chocolate cake is absolutely divine. It was the best chocolate cake I have ever tasted, the shortbread really is gorgeous. There are so many recipes I cannot wait to try as they are all pretty simple with accessible ingredients. This book definately sits at the top of my cookery books.

I received this as a gift and despite the fact that I have more cookery books at home than I know what to do with I have made good use of this one. The recipes are easy to follow and are illustrated, which I find helpful as I like to know what I'm aiming for. I thoroughly recommend the oven baked soy marinated cod (I make this regularly now) and also the Wok-It Chinese Chicken salad. I actually find it a shame that they have included the words 'low fat' into the cover - this will probably lead some people to assume the recipes are tasteless, which they certainly are not! Even if you are not on a diet you will enjoy creating the recipes in this book and I defy you not to find one you will want to make again!

I never cooked before i bought this book (frozen pre-cooked food doesn't count!). The dishes are hard to screw up, proven by the fact that i have not. The meals are very easy to make and taste even better,not to forget they are also CHEAP to make. To sum it up, this book has made cooking something that can be done without a lot of time and effort and yields great results.

As soon as i picked this book up and turnt that first page i was hooked, i couldn't put it down i was up until around 4 in the morning until i had read cover to cover. It is so well worded and put together it grabs hold of you and drags you in, its like you are there, you share his feelings. Some parts made me cry so much i had to stop reading until i got myself together. I definately recommend this read. I can't wait to get playing with fire.

Good simple recipes using the minimum of ingredients. Some ingredients don't exist anymore (e.g aspic) or are modernised, (fresh yeast, lasagne that needed to be boiled for 10 minutes before using in dish). It's nostalgic to look at the old style cookware in the illustrations. The dishes I cook from this book taste great.

This was a great read, the emotions were so apparant throughout that you didn't want to cook the meals but really feel the raw ingredients. powerfull book. good luck
