Food and Drink : One Is Fun!
is DEFINITELY JUST AS MUCH FUN!

'In 'One is Fun!', Delia has brought her thorough, detailed and commonsense approach to the problems of shopping for, storing and preparing food for one. No longer will single cooks have to wrestle with dividing ordinary recipes for four (how do you cope with a quarter of an egg anyway?).
Here is a treasury of specially devised, ready-made recipes for one.............This imaginative collection will positively encourage you to get cooking.
It goes without saying that it is also a book for all Delia's other followers. It is simplicity itself to adapt these recipes for up to four people, making them a valuable addition to all those that have become family favourites throughout the country.' ... Read More:

As a fish lover I was so pleased to receive this wonderful book as a present. The recipes are not a simple as some reviewers have suggested, but then my culinery experience is modest, however the text is clear and encouraging and I have enjoyed both the cooking and tracking down some of the ingredients

So you may have to do a little searching but this shouldn't put you off as you will be rewarded: try the seductive Pot-roasted lamb with sorrel and samphire and you'll never assault your senses with mint sauce again.

I think that the reason this book works so well lies not only with the enthusiasm and expertise of it's author, but also with his belief that using seasonal products gives you the best possible start to any recipe.

Some people can't spend hours in the kitchen preparing gourmet meals every day, and some people just don't want to be stuck in there. For those people, and everyone else this is a great book to have at hand.

If you liked the first "Meals in Minutes" from Ainsley then, like me, you'll find this a welcome addition to your collection. With 80 more extremely well presented recipes to salivate over and enjoy, the majority of which take only around half-an-hour to prepare and cook, this book is superb.

As is customary nowadays we are provided with the nutritional notes per serving for each of the recipes. This is great as it helps you make a conscious choice to eat healthier by letting you know what, for example, the fat content is. ... Read More:

Being a chef myself who specializes in Indian cuisine , this is a precise book for a good all-round venture to this wonderful world of curries.
There is just one thing missing though.... a step by step guide in MAKING the the actual pastes rather than relying on the convenience of bought products.

This book is good if you've just become vegetarian and don't know where to start but now I'm more experienced I find it relies too heavily on meat substitutes, eg, soy mince, veggie sausages, for my own tastes. If you're going vegetarian for health reasons or you avoid processed foods I wouldn't recommend it. Otherwise fine and it has some good ideas, especially the barbeque section.

Ignore the "it's too stuffy" comment about this book--it really is a wonderful, intelligent and practical book. With this and Alan Davidson's terrific book on North Atlantic seafood, you don't need much if any more.

And yes, herbs do play an important part in the recipes--it's just not nuovo Italiano of the Jamie Oliver school.

As with all Hugh F-Ws books, it has great recipes and is a delight to read. Notes on foraging could be clearer and the book would definitely benefit from more detailed plant descriptions for identification. Overall, I would recommend the book for the intrepid cook, but if you're either a supermarket junkie or ecommerce revolutionary, then this book may not be the one for you.

Being someone who hasn't got time for all the usual palarva that tends to go hand in hand with cookbooks, I found this one a treat.

The recipes come in themes, each with a starter, main, and dessert that complement each other perfectly - eg BBQ, Spanish, winter warmers.

They are also set up according to how many people you are having over, and each recipe is accompanied with a colourful photo of what (hopefully) your finished meal will look like.

With everything from paella to beef and ale stew, sweet pizza to sticky toffee pudding, this is one cookbook I'm sure people will turn to again and again.

If I was asked, what cookery book would you take on a desert island? -- it would be this one! My paperback copy, now a good 30 years old, is yellow and falling to pieces, but I wouldn't part with it. Every recipe is a revelation, not just good cooking, but cooking to die for! I really must get one of these hardbacks, before someone throws my old and tatty copy in the bin! You'll never watch another tv cook programme, ever.
