I am really fond of Italy and italian food; as I lived there for a year, I had the opportunity to try many italian specialities, and was looking for a book that was both easy to use, concise, and very good, so I am happy that I found this book from Claudia Roden which is really good. All the recipes I tried were exactly what one could expect, and often I was surprised that despite the few ingredients ( the osso bucco for example) the dish is still very tasty.

Thanks to this book, I can prepare a very decent lasagne bolognese, a tasty osso buco, a very good foccaccia bread, a nice panna cotta and many more. I am very enthousiastic about this writer and have also bought her book about mediterranean cooking, which is also very genuine. ... Read More:

I was so disappointed with Gary Rhodes' Cookery year books for the simple reason that there was not enough illustrations. I think this is what encourages me to cook. If it looks good I want to try it.

I was abit taken aback when baking the carrot cake with my daughter...in fact even calling it carrot cake was abit rich, seeing as there was only one small carrot in the whole thing! I tried halving the amount of sugar, and tripling the carrots, (the whole point about carrot cake is that the carrots largely replace the sugar and add moistness) and it worked a treat. but thought the savoury recipes were tasty and fun.

Food and Drink : Cooking for Friends
First of all remember that Ray White isn't Delia, he quite rightly assumes you know how to boil water without burning it and that you don't start planning a dinner party based on whats in the fridge. Secondly, read the recipes all the way through, especially the instructions, he has a nasty habit of throwing in the odd "place in fridge for 24 hours" about half way down in the third paragraph, not much good when your guests have already hit the road. And finally - enjoy it, yes it can be complicated, long winded and require some stretching of the old "cullinary skills" but the results are divine (often on the first attempt too!). Very few ever have the chance, or budget, to have RB cook for them, this is the next best thing and guaranteed to win brownie points ... Read More:

This wonderful little book contains a treasury of ideas for experienced cooks and for beginners. The late, great Jane Grigson's enthusiasm for food shows on every page as she explores a selected range of her favourite foods. Each section begins with a short essay, which sets the scene. The range within a relatively short book is enormous; from asparagus to venison and mussels and scallops to walnuts. This is a book I go back to time after time, for inspiration and ideas as well as for the recipes themselves.

Food and Drink : The Return of the Naked Chef
This is just as great as all the other books - easy, delicious recipes that actually work in normal life. You'll find some really new, inspiring recipes for pasta and risotto ... One of my favourites is the "salmon fillet wrapped in prosciutto with herby lentils, spinach and yoghurt" (tasty and moist). The book is also great, if you're planning to make your own pasta but don't know exactly how: Jamie explains this in detail. I would recommend this book to everyone!

Food and Drink : The Bean Book
I first came across rose Elliott's Bean Book when I was at University and I literally taught myself to cook from it and survived on a very slender budget by cooking all her wonderful, cheap and tasty bean recipes.

My original copy was falling to pieces so I've just bought this new edition -- and i still love it! The warmth and friendliness of the book are very encouraging and the recipes are lovely.
