This book is fantastic, I can not fault it one bit. Hugh and Fizz create a world where it is easy and fun to cook home made produce. My friends are often asking me how I know how to make so many good things, and its all in this cook book! Home made pasta, Who else actually does that anymore? Yet its easy and simple to do, all kinds of home made breads, cakes, its just brilliant!

I love reading this cookbook. I love how the book has different ideas for different feasts. I made the jewelled cupcakes for christmas. They were really marvellous and looked just like the picture. Everyone who came home during Christmas loved them... they looked fantastic and tasted even better..

Jeanette Orrey has finally written the book I have been searching for in years....I have 4 young kids and have been trying to find recipies which were good old fashioned meals like I was given as a child. Her values and beliefs regarding eating habits mirror my own - I have tried many of the dishes and the kids loved them (even the fussy child)!!! I am eagerly awaiting the second book arriving! Well Done Jeanette! Many thanks!

A fantastic book, a well worn favourite for this style of cooking, the fact she suggests using recipes as inspiration and not to be afraid of changing something, I found to be a lovely touch.

Everything I have made so far have been massive hits with my family.

Don't believe the one star reviews - I've had this book for years now, I'm coming back to it again and again and I'm definitely not a beginner or a bad cook, even if I say so myself. The recipes I made all turned out well (apart from one time which was my own fault, I boiled the onions for stuffing too long, to find the exact point is a bit tricky) and they're definitely not all simple beginners' stuff. Try the pork fillet in Parma ham with the rhubarb, it's a great dish for entertaining. Of course, the book contains easy recipes (and those that look impressive are often easy enough to accomplish, if you follow the recipe) but perhaps that's just the good thing about it: beginners won't be frightened away. This is actually the book that got my brother ... Read More:

My book arrived today and I have to tell you that I dropped everything
to spend a couple of hours reading it.

It is quite simply the best cook book I have ever seen, and I have quite
a few from Larousse through Gordon Ramsay to Elizabeth David. The
photos are beautifully composed and presented, and the writing is
clearly from the heart, but the way it actually shows the reader how to
achieve things is excellent.

My favourite book before this was Conran's cookbook because it devoted
a third of the book to choosing the right produce and demonstrating
preparation techniques, but this book is well ahead of that one.

It really captures the spirit and essence of the cook school and

I've just gone back through this cookbook as what put me off to start with is the lack of pictures for every dish, however in recent weeks I've made several of the recipes - the roasted goats cheese vegetable couscous is a real hit and the leg of lamb wih rosemary is a stunning summer dish. This is a great cookbook for summer - and fairly health conscious too - I hadn't realised Delia is a weight watcher!

This was my first Ramsay cookbook and after using the recipes in here for a highly successful dinner party for friends, I am now a devoted Gordon Ramsay follower. His recipes are detailed, his advice authoritative and the presentation and layout is spot on. Contrary to one of the previous reviews, there are plenty of pictures in this book and if a hopeless cook like myself can create these recipes to perfection (whilst also managing to satisfy and impress an extremely fussy Italian friend), there's hope for EVERYONE! This book comes highly recommended! Enjoy!

This is an excellent book with easy to prepare food, all of which have instructions on how to prepare ahead. I have an Aga, which Mary Berry excels in, but the book is written for anyone with any kind of cooker. Well worth having. I've borrowed a friend's copy, used many recipes, all delicious, and now I have to get my own!

If you bake bread, or intend doing so, this book is definately worth buying. No, it isn't full of pretty pictures . . . what it is packed with though is everything you will ever need to know about bread. It is a history book, a recipe book, an advice book . . . and more. After reading the book and following the advice given I have made the best bread I have ever produced, in a simple and straightforward way. It is useful to know what WON'T work for the home baker too. If you have an oven, a baking tray and a bowl, you can make fantastic bread - and you will never want to eat that soft, doughy stuff supermarkets call bread ever again!
