... but yet, when I'm looking for a dish for inviting people round, I never quite get around to cooking anything in here.

It's a well-intentioned concept, grouping recipes by which of the ladies of Wisteria Lane would rustle them up. But this is the very downfall of the book - you want a pudding? You're going to have to look at each lady's puddings to find one. You want a starter? Likewise? And let's face it, if you wanted good food, you'd basically just want a whole book of Bree's food.

PS: No, I couldn't find any recipes where Bree cooks brie!

I love this book - everything I have made from it has come out as it should have! The ingredients aren't too exotic, and there's a good variety of recipes. There is a good mixture of simple and fancy things to make.
The only difficulty I had was that quite a few of the recipes contained nuts (I live with someone with an allergy) but in a lot of cases the nuts weren't a crucial part of the recipe anyway.
I love this series of books, and this is my favourite so far!

It is a very very good Indian Cooking Book, easy and tasty. One thing I am not happy about is that there are not recipies for 'Tandoori Masala' and 'Garam Masala'. Of course, you can buy 'Tandoori Masala' and 'Garam Masala', but don't you want to try to make your own?

This book is not only full of excellent traditional recipes it also has some historical content which makes it an interesting read as well. You can just browse through it and learn something new about food;since I was given this as a christmas present I have refered to it on an almost weekly basis as it has some great suggestions and recipes as well as being very interesting.I would recommmend this as a gift because its not neccesarily something you would buy for yourself although I would suggest you do.Not sure about the fermented fish but may try it one day.

I browsed Amazon while back in the UK last summer, and I wanted to find a book on Indian cuisine which would be simple enough for me to prepare in Cairo where I live.
I decided to check out Madhur Jaffrey's titles, who else but the Doyenne of Indian cuisine? I was happy to find this BBC published title, and even more so when I saw the word "Simple" on the cover!
I'm fond of Indian food, and have admired wonderful dishes prepared on the BBC TV series. With the book in my hand I decided to try them for myself. Mango Lassi was a winner, and the Kebab recipe turned out perfectly. I would really like to commend Madhur Jaffrey, as her book is exactly as it says on the cover. Simple.
I am now browsing Amazon for another Madhur Jaffrey ... Read More:

This book makes you feel hungry just from reading it. The chocolate cake is divine and the main course dishes have you ringing friends to come around and try over a bottle of wine. This book is simply divine - although don't expect to make anything in 10 minutes as this is about enjoying cooking and food as well as eating it!

This is a very good book. Great, inovative flavours. Recipes from different regions in India, so you can get an idea of the vast cuisine in india. Its worth heading to indian shops to get all the specialist ingredients.

This book probably isnt best for beginners, as there are often several components to each dish, and often has more a few stages in the preparation. Saying this, dont be put off, the results are well worth the effort.

Great indian cookbook.
