This is a very good book. Great, inovative flavours. Recipes from different regions in India, so you can get an idea of the vast cuisine in india. Its worth heading to indian shops to get all the specialist ingredients.

This book probably isnt best for beginners, as there are often several components to each dish, and often has more a few stages in the preparation. Saying this, dont be put off, the results are well worth the effort.

Great indian cookbook.

Food and Drink : The River Cottage Family Cookbook (River Cottage Cookbook)
Yes, this book does contain recipes that are too basic for people with decent cooking skills, but there are recipes for those people too. It's the mixture that makes it a true family cookbook - you can hardly start your children off cooking with complicated recipes. All the recipes are presented in a very clear way and easy to follow. What I realy like about this book are the projects that are included in most chapters. They really make it possible to teach children how food is or used to be produced (make your own pasta, cream cheese, grow your own potatoes or little salad garden on very little space ...) or just suggest ideas for having some fun, for example at a children's party (have a pancake race, create your own icecream maker ...). After my disastrous attempt with Paul Prudhomme's book, this book was a breath of fresh air. Tasty, simple recipes which remind me of the Carribean. Not all are perfect, but a very good success rate with me, particularly with fish & prawn recipes.

The review title says it all. You'll find plenty of ideas for simple and delicious Thai food, nicely presented and well explained. If you want to put Thai food together with the minimum of fuss, this book is great. There are some howlers with quantities of ingredients, but mostly these are easy to spot. The writer seems to have had a very unreliable thermostat on his deep fat fryer though - following instructions on temperature and frying times closely would not be advised unless you like your food rather too well done!

The book is well laid out, has great pictures, and is a pleasure to dip into. Some of the write ups are really interesting.
Q: So why the low rating?
A: Because it takes me longer to read Observer Food monthly which a lot cheaper - it's a bit expensive as a [brief] read, some of the articles are a bit like that essay `What I did on my holidays' and it is no use as a cook book, since there is no proper recipe index, which is the main reason for low rating. Shame, I like Mark Hix generally, but apparently his publishers think we should buy British Food as well if we want recipes.
