We just got back fromTurkey and the recipes are excellent! Also good to look at as far as just reading. My Lebanese friend, who is an excellent cook, finds the seasonings authentic. I am giving her a copy!

The review title says it all. You'll find plenty of ideas for simple and delicious Thai food, nicely presented and well explained. If you want to put Thai food together with the minimum of fuss, this book is great. There are some howlers with quantities of ingredients, but mostly these are easy to spot. The writer seems to have had a very unreliable thermostat on his deep fat fryer though - following instructions on temperature and frying times closely would not be advised unless you like your food rather too well done!

I want to see more stars against this book, which is why I am typing this review. Having lived in Italy, I was searching for an authentic Italian cookbook and when this book was given to me by a discerning friend, I knew I had found what I was looking for. It is a real delight...so full of useful tips ...not just about the process of cooking the recipes but about the ingredients themselves. It is the book every Italian mother should hand on to her daughter! Those readers who may be put off by the lack of photos of the actual recipes should think again...Mary's recipes are delicious and foolproof. Italy on a plate! We have purchased MANY barbecue books over the last few months, and had really high hopes for this title based on the reviews. Sadly the book is very much geared to the American Market (and why shouldn't it be - the author is American himself) and I feel does not measure up well to our homegrown barbecue manuals. There are LOADS of recipes, but I feel that we will only try a few.

I found my hardbook copy of this in a bookshop sometime ago. I took some time to browse through it and was impressed by the quantity, quality and detail of the photography and the interesting mix of recipes plus background information about the food of France. In an era that's become dominated by the celebrity chef's book, it's often worth making a more informed choice on cookery books to avoid another dust gathering book with the author's mugshot on the front. The recipe layout is neat, the instructions are clearly written with many of the classic caveats of cooking covered, so the end product often meets the picture perfect results on the opposite page.
