I love this cookbook! It is not a cookbook that you would whip out on a weekday - although it is a mix of really easy dishes and more time consuming and advanced ones. Because of the latter I would probably not recommend it to a beginner. Some of its recipes have definitely become regulars with us.

We love the 'seasonal' approach & the recipes are all a treat to those who like Flavour with a capital F. What I mean by that is that most recipes taste like the basic ingredients/vegetables, and not like a mix of tons of ingredients (if that makes sense). What I also mean by that is that it also provokes you to taste something you may not have come up with yourself (within the Italian kitchen realm), such as a lemon salad... which ... Read More:

I only eat the results. However, my evidence to date indicates that - if your wife cooks, and you love food - this book is a worthwhile investment.

If you do not have any book of Persian cooking, this is the one to start with. You might find some spicies are diffcult to get, however, internet shops can help you. My favourate recipie is 'Aubergine and Lamb stew'. It takes a long time to cook according to this book, but I cook half of the steps the day before. One negative thing about this book is price. It is an expensive book, unfortunately.....

You shopping bag contains some odd vegetablesand you are supposed to serve a delicious meal within the hour, but howcan the vegetables and a few assorted items from the larder be turned intothe lucculus dish you had in mind? Don't despair! Just grab this littlebook and look under the name of your vegetables and you will find all theinspiration and directions you need. This book is a must for any personwho enjoys serving well-prepared food. I'm a UK citizen, and I've never even tasted a real Thanksgiving dinner before, let alone cooked one, but I've been determined to try my hand at one since reading Nigella Lawson's Feast. Since then I've ordered loads of books off Amazon on the subject, and this is by far the best for beginners and people who are clueless on the subject - and, I'm sure, more experienced hands. There are so many mouthwatering recipes and different ideas here, I don't see why anyone would need another book. It covers all the bases, including several recipes for different flavours of turkey. It also contains several plates of colour photos, although is not illustrated without with photos for each recipe, which is a shame.

The best Thanksgiving book I've found so far!

We take an off season break (ie when it's raining but inexpensive!) in Catalonia each year with friends. I bought this book after one such and it now comes with us on each trip.

Jenny Chandler has filled the book with some excellent, often very straight forward, recipes ranging geographically from Galicia on the Northwestern tip of Spain, right across to Barcelona. She does a good job of explaining regional differences in ingredients and technique and enlivens the book with plenty of relevant anecdote.

In addition, the illustrating photos are of very high quality and Chandler provides a clear and concise guide to the wines of the region that makes a very welcome change from just buying Rioja.

Strongly recommended for anyone ... Read More:

Remember farmhouse teas in childhood, with ham or cheese salad,home-made bread, jam, biscuits, cakes, and families gathering to eat together? This is an image conjured up for me by this lovely book, which gives recipes for all these things, and much, much more. How to make your own cheese, butter, sausages, pickles ; how to make a smoker from an old biscuit tin, to smoke fish or meat; how to cure meat, make your own corned beef.........and so much more. This book is for lovers of good, healthy, traditional food, made properly, without additives. The book is well organised, recipes are well written & easy to follow, and Jocasta provides a wealth of fascinating information, anecdote & chatter, so it is a joy to read, as well as a practical guide. I use it and ... Read More:
