This is a truly amazing book but one I don't think I will ever use to cook from. The photography, the writing, the recipes are all excellent but I think maybe a little too complicated to want to do at home.

At work maybe I will use a few of the ideas but I dont think i will ever make any of the full recipes.

I still have to give this 5 stars as it is a truly great book and just carries on from any of Thomas Keller's books, Its different cooking but still in the same league!! Highly reccomended

I was left dissapointed by this book which seems to assume that good food in London can only be found in affluent or trendy areas, and mostly in expensive delis or restaurants. I really felt that they missed a trick to really unearth the jems of London's food scene but opted instead for the obvious. For example, coverage for South East London is woeful, despite it being home to any number of excellent pan-asian and caribean shops and restaurants, as well as some of the best British food from great roasts, to fish and chips and pie and mash. You can only assume that the researchers didn't like the idea of Jerk Chicken in Catford. The cynic in me would also like to know how many of the establishments listed are somehow a part of the Conran empire. ... Read More:

I'm originally from Granada. Can't remeber the times I've been my self at Las Alpujarras. The book it's beautifully written an the recipies are not adapted to the american or north-european taste. If you want really Spanish or Meditrranean food this is one of the best books you might ever have.
Might be also tru you find it difficult to find som ingredients. I feel free to change them. Just try to keep with the sort of fish or meat indicated in the recipe (meaning white fish for white fish, rock fish for rock fish, lam for lamb, and so on).
This review should also apply to the book nr. 1, though here pictures are better in my opinion. As I recognise the book nr. 1 is also a 5 stars I wish I could give this one a 6 stars!

No matter how many pounds you expend on this book you will get them all back, and more! They may not be the kind of pounds you want, but as you're standing on the scales seeing another stone clock up, you will, at least, be happy! These recipes are so feel-good! I mean, I never had 'Oatmeal Muffins' before but I feel like I've been eating them all my life, so nostalgic i feel munching into one. The recipes are fairly simple, and they always seem to work. The cakes are invariably FANTASTIC. Try the apple and walnut butterscotch layer cake. gee, that sure is the kind of cake momma used to make. What am I talking aabout? I don't speak like that.... but this book makes me, so good are these cakes.

I really like Hardeep Singh Kohli and I love food; so this book should have been right up my alley. Having asked himself the question, `Why did I feel the need to apologise for being British in India and apologise for being Indian when in Britain?', Hardeep plans a journey to India in order to `find himself'. The blurb would have you believe that he does this by cooking typically English foods such as Yorkshire Pudding and fry ups, and using them as a means to connect with Indian people and as a result to learn more about himself and his feelings about having a dual nationality.

Unfortunately, the blurb is a bit misleading. Just to give you an idea of what I mean, I quote from page 208 (more than two-thirds of the way through the book) `I have ... Read More:

Lots of curry recipe books can be quite fiddly. This is practical and easy to use. There are a few ingredients that can be hard to get, which is why it gets four and not five stars from me. I'm lucky in that I live near a vibrant Asian community and was able to source a lot of the stuff, but there are some things you will not find in regular supermarkets. The other thing I would be slightly wary of is spiciness levels. I made the Andrha chilli chicken the other day. It recommended two fresh chillis and five dried chillis. I thought this was a bit much, even for a spicy dish. I added two fresh chillis and it was more than enough for us. I suggest adding your chilli amounts gradually to taste.

Having said all that these are great recipes which ... Read More:
