I just love this book. It is full of yummy recipes with lovely colour photographs and the actual recipes are easy to make and each one I have cooked has turned out first class. There is a good selection of recipes which are divided into catergories, which include, poultry, meat, pulses, vegetables, sweets etc.

There are no fussy ingredients which one cannot find, and the cooking method is pretty straightforward. This has to be my favourite curry book by far. I am a very satisfied customer!

For those liking to understand the skill of pork handling, this is a good book and a worthy reference material. However I have to agree with the previous review and comment on the advances in culinary expertise. For me the use of some ingredients and techniques is a little laboured if excessive and the pork swordery required renders this a book little limp. I've had a few sausages in my time and have to admit that these do taste really good but for this book it's very rare I'll lob out my pork these days. I have to say though that my neighbours really do enjoy my pork, especially on hot summers days on the barbecue so for those special days, I will make the effort and give the neighbours a good treat with some quality porking sausage.

This recipe book is a superb addition to anyone's culinary library - clearly not every recipe will suit every person but it is inconceivable that you would not find a significant number of useful recipes in here and even if you found just one nugget, then considering the price, it would be well worth it.

The variety of recipes in the 1000 series is simply staggering - to say you are stuck for choice is an understatement. And there is a vegetarian section in this too which is an extremely useful feature.

Ok, so there are no photographs but against that, the books don't cost a fortune either and they are compact.

You really cannot go wrong with any of these recipe books and when you consider they cost little ... Read More:

This book is fun to read and the pictures are delightful. However, for me at least it is far from practical. I don't even know what many of the ingredients are and while I heed the advice of other reviewers to get myself down to an oriental store or shop online, it is not so simple. Take the recipe for octopus tempura on page 54. The ingredients are listed as "half boiled octopus leg, 1 tbs pastry flour, 1 tsp beaten egg, aonori (green seaweed sprinkles) and oil for deep frying". Never mind the anonori. How easily does one get hold of half a boiled octopus leg? Or half an octopus leg to boil? On the rare occasions when I have seen fresh octopus for sale, it has been a whole octopus. What would I do with the other seven and a half legs?

This book was a big let down and in fact is the first book I have ever returned to Amazon. The recipes are complicated and for large numbers - like 14 and 20. We also found that not all the recipes had pictures and we do like to see what we are making. A much better book is Aldo Zilli - Simple Italian Cookery.

Someone bought me this as a present, as I am very fond of 'The Sopranos'. The formula is to present a series of recipes allegedly edited by Artie Bucco with interjections from various Sopranos regulars (Janice remembering mealtimes at home as a child, Carmela on entertaining for a large number of guests, Tony giving his views on the conduct of a sucessful barbecue, Bobby defending food for the big guy, and so on). Compared to the series it's unsubtle, but fun too, and well illustrated with pictures of the cast and some of the dishes. Certainly one to recommend to afficianados. Oh, and the recipes do work ; I've tried some of them.

Three weeks in China last year- lower cholesterol and no gastric reflux-so chefs hat on and 2/3 home cooked Chinese meals a week. Overall I have not been disappointed.First time round , stick religiously to the recipes (on those where some ingredients do not mysteriously disappear) - you will find some absolute gems. Some will require your intervention second time round to boost the taste, persevere, experience comes through. A wonderful addition to my library - and I am 74yo. Frank Wood.

a range of recipes some of which you will have seen before. I think the strength of this book is that it is so small (i.e. there's not hundreds of recipes) and so all it contains are dishes you'd actually want to cook and, possibly more importantly, those you can cook.

Unlike other cook books, Aldo doesnt just show you the finished product and give you instructions on how to get there, he also gives you photographs of what the dish should look like at various stages so this gives you some condfidcence that what you are doing is right.

If you've never cooked Italian before (and I have) then this is a good book to get you started - a book full of simple cooking, simply put !
