I was a little disappointed with this book to be honest. The recipes are ok and the cupcakes turn out ok, but they're nothing special, at least I don't think so. Despite that, the book is user friendly, as in, it contains plenty of info about frostings, ingredients and loads of decorating techniques (however I would REALLY only recommend that if you're catering for 5 yr olds). I was after something a little more sophisticated i think and I just couldn't get round the fact that most of the cupcakes looked like a child had made them! Sorry!

This is an excellent introduction to the making of hand-made chocolates, covering the making of truffles, hand-dipped and moulded chocolates. But be aware - it is the same book as the 2006 "Making Fine Chocolates" by the same author. If you own one book, you own them both.

I bought this book so I could bake for my 5 year old daughter who is allergic to eggs, nuts, strawberries to name a few! Thank you so much Rosemarie for taking the time to write this book - the look of joy on her face that she can eat a cake for a change (even if she doesn't like the taste of it) is priceless. One comment I would like to make is that there are a few "americanisms" I don't understand. Luckily I have an American friend who can translate ingredients such as Club Soda which is Sparkling Water and not White lemonade as I was about to add in the recipe. A few other recipes suggest adding instant chocolate pudding mix or similar things which we don't have this side of the pond and we don't know what they are so we can't substitute ... Read More:

I purchased this book over the weekend and was slightly dissapointed. Firstly as it's an american cookbook the measurments are in cup measures so if like me you don't have a cup measure don't use your mug you have your tea as this definately will not work. My real dissapointment was that there is only ONE photo in the entire book. The only tasty think about this book is it's cover. The receipes themselves don't sound too inviting. Personally if like me you like to see a picture of what your end result should look like (Not that mine ever look as perfected as in the picture's) then this book is not for you and definately not for me!

The great thing about this book is that it has a whole package, pretty, easy to read, great recipes. I've always found it hard to go through a cookbook at one go but this is an easy read. Beautiful photos and good guidelines, explainations. You won't regret it!

It is a common stereotype that the Brits know nothing about food.....being a foreigner (Chinese) and having lived in the UK for 3 years, I often have to try hard to prove many wrong and that the UK is indeed an isle of plenty with wholesome fresh produce, talented chefs and interesting dishes. Many times, I get stupid responses like: " Prove it to me!" Well, with this dessert book by Gary Rhodes, I can finally make them eat their words! I am looking forward to more books by Gary Rhodes in the near future! Mr Rhodes, you deserve a medal and a nation's highest honour for doing so much justice to British food! Well done!!
