I received this book for free through a Carnation Condensed Milk offer back in December 2005. It is by far my favourite dessert recipe book. Each of the recipes calls for no more than 6 or 7 ingredients, which is surprising because the results look and taste amazing. The recipes really are no-fuss and allow the cook to spend little time over the stove and more time sharing yummy desserts with loved ones and dinner guests. My favourites include chocolate puddings, caramel fudge and chocolate croissant pudding.

This is a book that will instantly tempt you into steaming and baking puddings. It has wonderful photographs and the writers'enthusiasm for their subject shines through. But only if you're a very experienced baker and one to question a recipe and change it as you seem fit will you succeed with any of the ones given here. If you follow them to the letter you'll be very disappointed. I've baked three today. The Chocolate Pudding had much too chocolate topping which means that half of it stuck to the (well) buttered basin. I then cooked the Sultana and Butterscotch Pudding which had so much water in the sauce poured over the cake mixture that it completely drowned it. I tried several recipes in this book and I was pretty dissappointed with all of them. I brought this book so that I could make vegan treats for some friends. The bronwie that I made fromt he book tasted like earthy soil. I wouldn't reccomend this book. Sarah Kramer's Vegan books are better.

I would recommend this book to anyone, especially anyone who has ever visited the real buttercup bakery. On a trip to New York I visited the bakery every day - those cupcakes are good! Although I have not yet tried to make any of the recipes, they are well explained and many are quite simple, unlike some books whose recipes always require about 50 ingredients! There is a section of colour photos of some products, and although most recipes do not have a picture, the name and little comment for each are pretty self explanatory. When buying this book, I was torn between this and the original buttercup cookbook, but this became an obvious choice when I discovered the original had no cupcake recipes! This is a very good book with a large variety of recipes for ice-creams and other iced desserts. Whilst it helps if you have an ice-cream maker it also includes instructions to make the desserts by hand. I think this was a great book because it had many different ideas and original recipes. The main downside is that they can take a bit long to make.
