I found these series to be fairly reasonable contentwise. The cooking related content was very good with the animal raising being particularly illuminating but the celebrity content seemed rather superfluous. That said, perhaps celebrity content would be more relevent to UK residents (I'm from downunder). The absolute worst aspect (literally) of these DVDs is that they are incorrectly coded as being 16:9 when the main content is actually 4:3. This means that you need to manually switch aspect ratios on your display each time you watch them unless you like Gordon being 20 stone - if you cannot force the aspect ratio on your display, then you're stuck with fat Gordon. Top geezer, wicked, sorted. Whether you like him as a person or not, there is no denying that the boy can cook. This dvd is fantastic, all the recipes are simply and easy to make and has the good feature of "Select a dish" where you can access each recipe straight away. I have loved every series so far and hope there will be many more to come. Long live the naked chef!

I already own some of Elaine MacGregor's sugarcraft videos and thought this one would be a bit more up-to-date as they were a bit old-fashioned. Although this one was distributed in 2008, it seemed a bit "eighties" to me, as fashion in cakes has moved on since this was made. There was an extremely irritating jingle running through it and frequent references made to a book which is not included in the package. I think it is ok for a beginner, and there are a lot of useful tips but I was a bit disappointed overall.

This has a similar feel in many respects to Steins "Food Heroes" (in so far as Hugh travels the country to partake in a variety of food related activities), it isn't terrible by any means but my main gripe is the price for what you get. Yes, Hugh's travels around the country in order to experience & source local/regional foods are still interesting & there are still some fascinating features & very good recipes & Hugh never disappoints with his free & easy style of presenting, it's just that all the other River Cottage DVDs are so much better (& you get more for your hard earned cash) - I'm a great fan of Hugh's work & he beats much of what else is available, hands down but I would suggest any of the other River Cottage ... I found this DVD to be very useful. Its shows basic cake decorating skills which are essential. It has a 'home made' feel to the DVD which makes it very easy to understand and follow the presenter. For the price, its a great bargain!
