This is a great book. It has lots of nice simple recipes, which as well as being easy to make taste amazing. The style is easy going and friendly, like curling up in a comfy chair with a friend. The Apple-cinnamon cornmeal pancakes alone were worth the price, even non-vegan friends gobbled them down.

I absolutely love this book - it really is the best veggie cookbook I've ever come across! All too often the angle is that if you're veggie you must be a) doing it to be healthy (in which case the recipe book neglects the gloriously calorific, cheesy, doughy stuff in favour of stiff, crunchy vegetables) or b) doing it and having difficulty (in which case you basically get fifty recipes for Shepherd's Pie except with quorn mince substitute). It's not the book for you if you want millions of mouthwatering pictures, it's very wordy indeed - but personally I like that, and the advice given is so good it's a sure compensation. Hard to imagine, but this book about the current state of the world of wine blends the thrill of an expose with the wisdom imparted by a primer, while written with the verve of Tom Wolfe. I learned more about the good stuff, about wine snobbery and - most important of all - about how to enjoy wine 'without the tears' than I ever expected. Not bad for something that costs less than a decent bottle of Cannonau.

I'm not even a vegetarian, and I love this book. There are many of Lemlin's dishes that are special enough for entertaining, and, as promised, they really are quick to fix. She doesn't fall into the exotic ingredient trap, either - one trip to the supermarket will do ya. I usually check cookbooks out from the library before I purchase them, and this one passed the test!

I spent a lot of time down at Schumacher College, where Julia was the chef, and all of the meals that I ate during my year there came from her book. The food is easy to prepare, looks fantastic at the end and tastes simply wonderful. I really don't have any sort of a complaint or improvement for the recipes! It is a well presented and appealing book that I use every week. It is split into the following sections: Soups, Main Courses, Salads, Pates & Dips, Desserts, Biscuits, Cakes and Bread. Each section has a wide range of dishes within it that will keep you going for a very long time!! If there is one vegetarian cook book that I couldn't live without then this is the one...

It is just what it says it is. An encylopedia. A lot of terms and pepper types are listed; many no one really cares about. Recipes are pretty much layed out O.K. and at least your are given a relative heat ranking... Seen worse, seen better. I have purchase quite a few books as I enjoy reading the history/narrative as much as trying some of the recipes.

My partner became vegan and I was worried I would not be able to make cakes etc. No worries with this book. The double choc pecan brownies (and variations) are out of this world - you would not know they are dairy free and this is now a regular birthday treat. The muffins are light and moist - better than the shop versions. Using fruit and veg to make lovely moist bakes. When we could not find organic chocolate soya dessert commercially, we used the recipe for the cream to use in sandwich cakes and now my partner prefers that to the commercial soya dessert that is back in the shops. So easy to make, he does it himself. NB the recipe for cornbread may have a little too much baking soda - we found it inedible, so made a wee adjustment. This said, highly ... Read More:
