I have a few recipe books by Rose Elliot (some from years ago, but more recently The Bean Book and Veggie Chic). I like her ideas, although at times they can become predictable. However, this is a good book and has some excellent quick meal ideas. Great for anyone in a hurry who needs to avoid yet another boring sarnie.

I've rarely used my slow cooker in the past, except for beef chilli for my husband. I had limited expectations (although I don't know why), but this book has turned up trumps. There's a whole mix of recipes (1-2 hours, 6hrs, savoury, sweet) and most include everyday ingredients that probably hit your shopping list anyway. A few recipes; Lentil Dhal with onion, cumin and garlic Spicy Chick Peas in a a tomato sauce with rosemary Vegetable Casserole with thyme and cheese dumplings Spiced Couscous with apricots, feta and pine nuts Butter Bean and Pasta Casserole with gremolata Sticky Toffee Pudding Some recipes require you to fiddle a fair bit but most recipes are a total breeze, and ideal ... I was given this book many years ago and gradually I have used its recipes more and more. The presentation is a breakdown into twelve months with recipes using what is in season during that month - or should be in season if so much produce was not flown in from Africa and further afield. Given the move toward eating produce that does not have "air miles", this book deserves more attention than it received - maybe it was a little ahead of its time. The one drawback is that most of the recipes require some preplanning and effort and are more suited to a weekend than during the week when you may have rushed home from work. That's the reason why I gave 4 stars rather than 5, but its a useful prompt to more seasonally based cooking.

wow! i've got numerous vegan cookbooks, some of which contain the odd valuable recipe, but this is something else. every recipe sounds delicious and they are by no means hard to make. although quite a few of the recipes have fairly long prep times, they are definately worth it. my omni boyfriend is even impressed at his delicious vegan dinner. one really good thing about this book is that at the beggining there are a couple of chapters on how to cook a grain, how to cook a veg, and descriptions of different equipment you may need. recipes include something for every occasion. Those from the mix and match section are my personal favourites. so if you are a vegan and need help sorting out your diet and your kitchen this is the book for you. ... Read More:

I absolutley love this book - so much that I keep giving it as a gift and reccomending it to friends over and over again. I've travelled through many of the countries in the book and the writers tales of how they came across each dish really bring back memories of my own adventures and the desire for new ones! It's essentially a culinary travelogue. Also fantastic are their vegetarian adaptions of classically meat dishes which I was unable to try on my travels as I'm vegetarian but can now attempt at home. The photographs of the locations and the food are inspiring and the recipes easy to follow. I've used the book for casual meals and dinner parties alike.

An interesting mix of recipes, but I found them a bit over-reliant on cheese and somewhat expensive ingredients. That said, the ones I tried did taste very nice. Not a book for those watching the pennies!

I love this book. As the only vegan in my household, its brilliant for me to cook meals on my own. Its helped me to discover new foods to eat, different combinations of food, and I feel healthier for it. I don't care that there are no pictures in the book, why does there need to be? You can imagine with your mind if you know what all the ingredients look like. The book is divided into winter and summer recipes, which is definitely a winner, as you can then see exactly which are the warming foods and which are the cooling foods. Yum. The realy great thing is if you have someone to stay who is also vegan, you can just double the recipes up, which is so much easier than trying to reduce sizes from a family book for one person. ... Wow! What can I say. This book has to have some of the most inspirational vegetarian recipes I have ever seen. I've just had great reactions at a dinner party to the Oyster Mushrooms in Ginger Butter that I cooked from a recipe in this book, and I have to agree with them. The recipes are not necessarily the quickest to prepare, but if they all taste as good as the mushrooms, then the extra time taken to put them together will be worth it. Since buying this book, my plans for this year now include a trip to Cork to sample the delights of this restaurant.
