this is a lovely box, full of great vegetable recipes! its a great present for any aspiring cook or anyone who is keen on their veg! the only slight problem i find with it is getting the books back into the box but it looks so beautiful and creative its really no big problem!

This has to be one of the best vegetarian books I've read but also, being a novice in the kitchen, it is great because the recipes are straightforward and understandable. Some of them use unusual ingredients that can be difficult to find but adaptation is part of the fun of cooking. This was recommended to me by a chef friend and he swears by it for the restaurant as well as at home. A must-buy!

I bought this book with very low expectations, but what a brilliant book. Not only is is vegetarian, it is vegan and low fat. I have worked my way through some of the book creating tasty and satisfying main meals and still have loads of things to try. Everyone was a winner, even the recipes I thought might not be to my taste! On the strength of this book I have bought more of Robin Robertsons cookery books and have not been disappointed. One word of warning though, this is an American cookery book and has American cup measures which scare some people. No problem, go and buy a set of American cup measures and you're away. It's actually a lot easier than weighing everything!

Delia knows her cooking, however, she hasn't researched vegetarianism properly. She is using parmesan. All vegetarians know that parmesan is not vegetarian, so she should mention to use the substitute cheese. It is misleading new vegetarians into thinking parmesan is ok. That's why only 2 stars. If one reads the recipes carefully and alter it accordingly then there are some very nice new ideas in this book..

This book is in a great small format with a solid binding ( unlike some cookbooks where the pages start to fall out after just a few uses). The photos are attractive and will make you want to try out the recipes. The organization into chapters ( starters, soups, salads, mains and sides) makes it easy to find your way around. There is an excellent variety of recipes based on different cuisines from around the world and they are all relatively simple to prepare. Best of all they are absolutely delicious. I have made quite a few of the dishes from this book and every single one of them has been a winner.

The book is presented in an old fashioned way, the pages are boring to look at and there are no pictures of the meals to inspire you to give them a try. There are quite a lot of meals to try but there is not much variation in the style or ingredients used. There are also alot of canned or pre-made produce involved, which is fair enough but when the meal is in a can and you are told to add cheese and bake I'm sure these are things which we could have come up with on our own. There is a bit of a lack of imagination but if you are after cheap meals which could feed a few people then you may want to pick this up, I would get a few other books as well though as I would find it incredibly difficult to rely on this one for all occasions.

I disagree with the review below on the child rearing parts of this book which I found very down to earth and sensible. As a mother of three I read this when pregnant with my first child and thought both the recipes (lots suggestions for adapting for toddlers) and other child rearing info useful. Rose Elliot suggests keeping toys in bottom drawers and accessible places and things you don't want broken out of reach - much bettr than not adapting your house and trying to say "no" to a difficult two year old I would have thought.
