I love this book. The recipes are so delicious and most that i've tried are so easy to make. These guys are a real hoot too! You can tell they had a great time testing these recipes. I bought copies for my mother and a couple friends who also love booze. You have to try the B52 Cupcakes and Boozy Buttermilk Pancakes--they're both amazing!!

A reasonable introduction to making wine at home.
The recipes are certainly good.
I found the layout slightly annoying in that it talked about the various elements of wine making but not necessarily in the right order. If you wanted to make wine for the first time then you have to jump around the pages to get a basic idea. I have seen other books where making your first wine is more clearly laid out.

This is not just a cold listing of all regions, estates and wines like most wine guides. A significant section of the book is dedicated to explaining the history of Greek wine, the plethora of indigenous vine varieties, production methods, etc. It's really fantastic education, written in a very novel-like readable manner.

The guide part is certainly complete too - listing all the regions and most producers with lots of information for each.

However, there are two major things missing.

1. Price information, or just value for money information. Even if it was just in two or three categories, like less than 5 Euro / Pounds, between 5 and 15, and more than 15. This is always a good indicator to see if your ... Read More:

Thirsty Work is quite a good book for people who know zero about wine or maybe want to learn more, however, I would say that too much time is spent on funky lingo and artistic photos of Matt Skinner posing. As an adult (28) I thought that the book was probably aimed at a younger readership of teenagers, which makes me wonder if teenagers would really bother to read this book? There are not many books aimed at wine novices so I suppose this book is good from that point of view, but I couldn't help thinking that it could have been so much better. If you like Jamie Oliver cook books then this is the perfect book to put next to them on your coffee table, if you want a bit more substance or something less iritating to read then buy something else.

This book is written with a great deal of love and understanding of sherry and the people who made the trade in it so successful. It is a fascinating insight into how the popularity of sherry developed, and how the winemakers have coped with change and development. The fifth edition is as fresh as the first, written after the author's stay in Jerez in 1956.
