Food and Drink : Oz Clarke's New Essential Wine Book: An Indispensable Guide to the Wines of the World
Have been buying books about wine for 25 years. This is one of the best books I have read for a long time. Very good for first timers, read the section on wine types etc. Excellent reviews of the worlds wine regions for those with more knowledge. In all an excellent book.

Food and Drink : Oz Clarke's Introducing Wine
Having been continually confused by wine lists in restaurants, I was looking for a simple yet thorough introduction to wine and I have to say this book is fantastic! Starting with the very basics of wine, it tells you everything you need to know. It provides an excellent overview of different grape varieties, the major types of wine and how to match food with wine.

Particularly useful is the guide to major wine producing regions. This book gets the right balance of general introduction to wine, with hooks into a more detailed appreciation of wine. The book is logically structured and unlike many of the books out there, is squarely aimed at someone looking to learn the basics of wine appreciation.

Waldin has done it again! A terrific read.

This is a writer that really knows his subject. But his knowledge is conveyed in such a way that he doesn't make the whole subject of wine intimidating. Nor does he patronize his readership.

Monty Waldin is one of the few wine writers out there that both literally and metaphorically is willing to get his hands dirty; he goes to these vineyards, he works on the vines and the soil and he is not beholden to any paymaster.

WARNING: It'll make you want to go to Tuscany.

A neoclassical view of plated desserts is, in my opinion, an improvement over the previous book in this series: A Modernist View of plated desserts. The first chapter is devoted to the pastry chefs involved in creating the desserts, and is very informative. Subsequent chapters are devoted to a variety of different desserts, but without as much emphasis on chocolate as the previous book. There is also a final chapter on sugar work which proved to be very helpful. I found the book to be well laid out and explained and the desserts are, as usual, mouthwatering! A must for anyone interested in the creative art of dessert making.

This book might have been reprinted in 2004, but the contents are timestamped at 1991 (as shown at the end of the preface), and the data does not go beyond 1989.

Why reprint a book in 2004 that has data 15 years out of date???

I agree with most of the above comments on this book. It certainly opened my eyes to the exhaustive process of wine making and French Beaurocracy! I certainly shall not quibble about the price of a good wine again!!!

Patricia is a complete inspiration and a very good writer.

I am so pleased to see (from her website) that she appears to be going from strength to strength.

She describes the people in this book so well that when there is a death, you feel it, and the news that one in particular died made me cry.

I shall certainly be buying her next book.
